Virb Elite firmware 3.2 hard freeze at beginning of recording.

Since there is no Virb hardware forum, I am forced to place this here.

I am using a brand new Sandisk Ultra 32GB HC U1 microSD.

I've experienced this issue on several of my rides, causing me to have no footage - a clip of a road raging driver was missed which would have been REALLY helpful to have. I reset the Virb and it seemed to be OK, but after several rides realized my heart rate monitor and cadence sensor were turned off. After I turned them back on, this freezing issue occurs often.

I start and stop recording with the slide button. When this issue occurs, at the end of my ride I see that 8 or so seconds have been recorded, and the screen is stuck and seems to require the battery to be removed to fix.

Any ideas? Any logs I can harvest from the device to send to someone? Do I have to replace my brand new SD card? Do I need to replace my Virb?

If it is your SD would you please inform me, with details about the SD.

I will, but I do not have any desire to spend another 50 dollars on an SD card unless I know that's the culprit (and I'd like a reason why from Garmin, because there's no reason it shouldn't work...unless it is faulty from factory)

I'm only asking when you find out if uSD is the problem to let me know.
I'm not asking you to buy one to test it.
But, you could try to borrow one from a friend and see if that is an improvement.

I am pretty certain the card you have only comes as a class 10, but I'll ask to be certain. Is it a class 10 card?

When you turn your sensors off (HRM and Cadence Sensor) does this resolve the issue? In your description above it sounds as if the sensors being ON is where the problems started. Does that sound accurate?

Yes, it is a class 10 card, SDHC - allowing the camera to handle the file/formatting operations. And that does seem like an accurate description, however the issue when the sensors are on is intermittent, ie: only freezes solid a portion of the time. For instance my recordings from yesterday afternoon and this morning were fine with GPS, HRM, and cadence sensor tracking enabled.

With sensors off, it never seems to freeze though I may not have ridden that way enough times to determine if that is 100 percent certain or not.

Hmmm...interesting. Too bad it isn't easily repeated. We might then be on to something. Did you ever look at the ViewFinder and notice that it had frozen when this issue occurred?

I usually look at the viewfinder after my trip and see it on a frozen display of the last thing it saw with a "recorded" time of 8 or so seconds. Now I usually start the camera before heading out and make sure it hasn't locked up - new symptom today though.

The VIRB didn't outright freeze up, but after I slid the switch up at the end of my trip to stop recording - I took my helmet off and looked at the viewfinder and saw that instead of having written to the SD and shutting down, the red activity light continued to flash but it wasn't actually recording any longer. I then pressed the power off button, and the red light continued to flash while the power down sequence was happening, but instead of it turning off in a few seconds, it took a minute or two. The second portion of my video was also corrupted as a 0 byte file.

What's going on?

It does seem strange that the issue would resolve itself all of the sudden with no explanation. The second issue that you've observed should not occur often, but it is something we've seen in the past and will be resolving in a future update.

Back to issue #1, have you tried a different class 10 microSD just to make sure it isn't part of the problem? I'm not advocating that you go buy a new card, just asking if you have another to test with?
