Tell us about your YouTube Upload Issues

We're updating the Google framework we use to upload to YouTube, and we suspect that will fix Mac VIRB Edit's YouTube upload issues. We'd feel a lot more confident about that assessment if we were able to reproduce the problems you're running into, though.

I imagine this comes as a bit of a surprise to those of you YouTube is failing for, but we don't really see YouTube uploads fail often on our end. Even in these forums, much of the feedback is actually from people who are having failed exports, not failed YouTube uploads.

Please only respond if you have videos that can successfully export but fail to upload to YouTube from VIRB Edit.

Those of you with upload issues:

Anything potentially unique/unusual that you do that would help us reproduce these issues would be appreciated, for example:
Do you let your Mac go to sleep mid-upload?
Do you minimize or cover up VIRB Edit with another app window mid-upload?
Do you have videos that consistently do work for uploads and others that consistently do not, or are failures more random than that?
Are there networks VIRB Edit -> YouTube uploads do work for you on, and others where they do not?
  • Hi, cant upload to youtube. Use the latest mac software. Ive uploaded on youtube with iMovie previously without any problems. I even turned off the "sleep"mode since I thought that was the problem in virb edit. Ive only tried 2 videos, takes so long time so I stopped trying. I downloaded it as file then imported it to youtube. I can only export to file if im not making any changes to speed in the movie. The movie finishes step 1 but errors in step 2 when trying to upload to youtube. Hope its some help:)
  • Just wanted to add that I tried again to upload a clip on youtube. The clip is 2 min and 14 sec. It actually succeeded, it took 50 minutes but its the first time a clip was uploaded directly on youtube. The clip was without and speed changes, just 2 clips added together.

    hi,

on Mac OS 10.9.1: i tried to share my first run movie by uploading to youtube, the Virb Edit 2.3.0 program seemed to upload the movie correctly without warnings, but youtube shows: "the movie could not be converted" Device: Garmin Virb Elite 3.20.
any logging or things i can do to help solve this?

Uploading to Youtube, i have never successfully done it through the VIRB software once. It generally takes an hour or two to attempt to do the 2 steps for a video less then 15minutes before finally crashing, always toward the end of step 2 of course.
My setup, Macbook Air with Mavericks.

MIGIMLI: I apparently failed to submit a reply I typed earlier, apologies... the best log info you could send us in this case would be the dimensions/length/filesize of the video you attempted to upload, and any extra information you can squeeze out of the youtube "failed to convert" page (perhaps by clicking a "Details..." link or something similar).

BMART73: Are you saying that the application is actually crashing, or just that it spits out an error dialog and asks you to report, before presenting a "upload failed" error message? We've had a fair amount of users call that a crash. Sorry for the confusion.

It just takes way too long. I never see another end message other then 'failed to upload - incorrect credentials'. The thing is, they're not incorrect. I log into my youtube and i can see numerous failed uploads all from attempts from the virb.
  • I see exactly the same as BMART73; very slow uploads which always fail except in the case of very short videos. Uploads of the same files to Vimeo take a fraction of the time.
