Does video save on flat battery?!

Hi all,
Thought I read somewhere that when when the virb battery dies during video recording that video is safely saved...
Unfortunately today I set up my virb on time lapse filming 3 hours of the river outside my office bursting its banks, I could see the little red light flashing away until just before I was planing on bringing it in when the batt must have died.

Plugged it into my PC and found a 0kB video file :-(

Anyone else had this problem? Gutted today's video failed as this was quite a rare event...

Sorry to hear your recording failed like that, but it sounds more like it locked up early in the recording, and never got to save anything. I've had mine lock up where the light continued to flash even though nothing was going on.

With a time span of 3 hours, even at the lowest resolution, it would have saved many files, each 4 gigabytes, had things gone normally.

Yep, the VIRB when working properly does save the current video just before shutting down because of drained battery.

I also have seen lockups though where camera has just stopped responding at some point during recording - nothing to do with battery.

Thanks guys that's good to know that this may have been a more random issue and the core function should cope with flat battery- I'll set it up for another time lapse over the weekend and see how it does!

I've had a number of lockups when recording video. I've also had one event identical to the OP - a 0KB file after three hours of time-lapse video recording. Quite a bummer.
