VIRB Wish List

I wish my VIRB had a way of displaying owner information like most of the Garmin GPS units. This could be a text file which is picked up from the card, or better yet written from the card to the device so the card didn't have to be in the unit all the time. The owner information would be displayed on power-up.

The reason I ask is that we lost a GoPro off a motorcycle last year (no great loss now that the VIRB is here!) and realized after that even if it had been picked up by an honest person, there was no way to tell who the owner was. I wrote my name and phone number with a Sharpie on my other cameras after that, but that's not very elegant.
  • Second Wish (Idea taken from a VIRB Review on Amazon)

Let one of the VIRB Dashboards tell us the Lat and Lon coordinates so we know our current location. Yes, many people with the VIRB carry another gps or smartphone, but it seems pretty obvious that if the information is in the camera, we should be able to see it.

    Please, Garmin?

(Must confess, I hadn't even noticed that we didn't have that info already)

Just to clarify - I think all I need is Lat and Lon in text format; not a map screen. The VIRB does not need to replace my Montana/Monterra/78S. Just if I forget or decide not to bring a proper gps, having the coordinates on the VIRB screen might be a life-saver someday.

+1 to that, I tried putting a text file on the card yesterday (without success).
  • On my wish list: Be able to setup camera via Garmin GPS units like EDGE 810 etc. Today we can remotely turn on/off video capture and took photos but it will be nice if we can setup video mode etc.
  • Another idea to add to my 'Wish List':

I wish the VIRB knewwhich way is up automatically. That way when I put it in the mount upside down, as a dash cam, I wouldn't need to switch the display manually. And remember to switch it back later.
  • Make it possible to calibrate the altitude meter.

Last week when I took the camera on my bicycle the video of my starting point showed -62 meters. (and no I don't live under the see :-) )
  • Another "Wish":

Allow the camera to rotate the display sideways so we could mount the camera sideways, but still have the video be right side up. Smartphones do it, so why not the VIRB?

    +1

That will be very useful and add lot of flexibility when mounting the camera.

+1 The Drift action cams can do this by rotating the lens (and the chip), you can set it at any angle, total rotation is 300 degrees.
  • My main wish today for Virb Edit is the capability to mix sensor input from multiple device/files and select the sensor I want. I have a Virb Elite, let's say I record a track with Virb Elite and with my Garmin Edge 800. I would like to have in my video the acceleration data from the Virb Elite and the other sensor data from the Edge (cadence, power, gps, temperature, altitude). The way to sync those data could (should) be via the gps data, which are present on both devices, or may be even better via the time stamp. Currently if I replace the gps track from the Virb Elite with the data from Edge I lose all the data recorded in the Virb Elite.
