new VIRB firmware v2.80 released

Slightly OT but there does not seem to be a VIRB hardware specific forum...

Appears something might have been amiss with firmware v2.70 from yesterday.

Garmin has now replaced it with v2.80 - but release notes are unchanged.

Change History

Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.80:

* Improved software reliability
* Improved photo capture performance
* Fixed intermittent issue with entering mass storage
* Elite Only: Improved ANT sensor stability
* Elite Only: Fixed issue with Daylight Savings Time

Needs WebUpdater to install (invoked automagically from VIRB Edit!)

Installed - seems okay. More testing later.
  • Still can't pair Virb Elite with GSC 10

    I have been able to pair the unit with the "Tempe"and the HRM ,but after many attempts, it will not pair with the cadence sensor. Any solutions? Hints?, desperate measures?
    Thanks

    You're doing better than I am. I was unable to pair with my HRM or my GSC-10 yesterday with 2.70, even though the VIRB had successfully paired with the HRM before. I didn't try my Tempe yesterday.

    Hmm, maybe it only pairs with one thing at a time, and if there are two present, it won't pair with either? With the previous version of the software, I paired with my Tempe by itself, and then a day or so later paired with the HRM. Since I was wearing my HRM yesterday when I tried to pair with the GSC-10, and told it to "Forget All Sensors" first, maybe that caused it not to pair with either. Worth a try later.
  • Hard to say whether it was the new 2.8 software or turning things on one at a time, but I managed to link up with my HRM. I "Forget All Sensors", turned on heart rate, walked the VIRB and myself away from the GSC-10, and it linked up when I was about 30 ft away from the GSC-10. However, I was unable to link up with the GSC-10, even after walking away from the GSC-10 and the VIRB. It didn't link up with the GSC-10 for the entire 1:20 ride. Afterwards, I linked up successfully with my Tempe, which wasn't with me during the ride. So there's still some problem linking with a speed/cadence sensor, apparently.

    Mine has connected to HRM since v2.60 without a problem but refuses to connect to any GSC-10 sensor and v2.80 hasn't fixed this. Since the speed recorded by the VIRB appears to be pretty much a random number when cycling, being able to connect to a speed/cadence sensor is essential if you want to use the data overlays.

    It's good to see Garmin releasing new FW regularly, hopefully they'll get this fixed soon.
  • 2.8 is worse than whatever I had before

    Well, I downloaded 2.8 this morning. My observations:

    1. *NOT NEW* Still won't pair with speed and cadence sensor.
    2. *NOT NEW* Does pair with HRM (but did that before)
    3. *NEW* - camera locks up when I slide the switch back to stop recording. Yep - the green light stays on and the LCD is showing a POWER symbol. Sliding the switch forward does not resume recording, holding the power on button in for awhile does not turn the camera off. Only way to shut it off was to pull the battery out. Yep - hard to believe.
    4. *NEW * - I'm getting a green look at the start of some video clips.
    5. *NEW* - One of my video clips wouldn't import, seemed to be corrupt.

    Yes - things have gotten worse rather than better.
