VIRB Edit Jerky Playback

I've noticed that any playback within VIRB Edit (v2.2.1) and any video exported from it has a jerky framerate (played in QT). It kind of judders slightly every second. Playback directly from the MP4 files on the SD card are perfectly smooth so there isn't a problem with the recording, something with VIRB Edit is introducing the judder when you add clips to a video and when you export.

The only time I see anything like that with the clips I've exported is when I tell QuickTime to speed up the playback. 2x is OK, but anything higher starts skipping frames. VIRB Edit 2.2.1 is working well for me.
  • It seems like only problems. Though I appreciate the feedback from Garmin. So Garmin - will Virb Edit work 100% soon? or at least 90%?
  • I've experienced the same issue with my Elite. Once the movies are uploaded into Edit, the playback is jumpy, almost like it's playing every other frame.

I noticed the same a few times so tonight after I imported a bunch of movies from my Elite, and the Elite was still plugged into the computer, playback was jumpy as you described. Once I selected one of the clips and chose "Make Movie", it played properly in the editing window. So the videos are not defective, but something about the initial playback is not quite right.

Rendering the gauges over the video while it plays could perform slowly or "jerky" on some machines, especially when increasing the playback speed. Exporting movies should result in videos that have a smooth frame rate, though. Even on machines that have no performance issues in normal playback, you should notice that the gauges update much more smoothly in an exported movie than in the edit mode's preview.
