VIRB Elite - Video MP4 and GPX not in sync

Did a bit more investigation after watching back some of my MTB videos from the weekend and as I suspect there is definately a sync issue on some of the imported videos/GPX tracks.

I was recording trails at approx. 5 mins a time. Looking back some are spot on, 1 is about 5 seconds out and another about 15 seconds!! Now the Virb did hang with red light stuck on and had to power off - but after that all seemed ok.

So if the VIRB Elite is writing both the mp4 video and GPX files why would they not be in sync? I know I can adjust the sync in VIRB Edit, but if I was going to do that I should have saved my money and bought the Normal VIRB and imported my Edge 510 GPX files.

Is this a camera recording issue or a VIRB Edit problem?

You are right. The VIRB Elite video and GPX track should sync up automatically. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. A future update of both the device software and the VIRB Edit software will fix this issue.

Thank you for the quick reply - really appreciate that, and as a developer I understand there will always be teething problems with new tech, although I trust this (along with the camera crashes / hanging on red light record) are on the very high priority list and will be fixed soon.

Please can you keep us up to date on expected version and dates for resolution ... I am not asking for a commitment to a exact date here, just information sharing on estimated releases ... Thank You.

PS. I am more than happy to assist with pre-release software testing.

It appears if you record at 720p 60fps on the VIRB the GPX data plays through twice as quickly in VIRB Edit. The video and data start off in sync but the GPX data plays through too quickly and gets increasingly ahead of the video. I can confirm that the GPX data finishes halfway through the video so it appears to be assuming the video is 30fps.
  • Very interesting

I recorded video at 60fps for a 1 hour 20 minute mountain bike ride. The VIRB broke the ride into 3 video files.

I used VIRB Edit to put them back together, then created a video and I had data for 40 minutes, then it just stopped which totally supports your theory (because 40 min if half of 1 hr 20 min)!

After 56 minutes though, it started showing some data again, but stopped a few minutes before the end of my ride.

Here's my video on the problem:

  • Yep think you are right ... seeing much better results since I switched back to default 1080p setting.

VIRB Edit 2.2.2 is available now. This release fixes the sync issue between video and GPS track on a Virb Elite.

I'm using 2.2.5.0 and the latest firmware. Updated my Christmas present.

I can't get the 720P/60fps video and Virb gpx data to sync. Did this break again?

edit: oops I was googling for help. I'm in the Mac section. I have the Windows 2.2.5.0
