Problems with Picture only video creation / quality

Virb Edit 5.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.13.1 (High Sierra with media from Garmin Virb XE at 4.30 per Gamin Express

- Create a video featuring pictures only. On export one is offered resolution choices of 2.7K, 1440 or 960. Picking any one gets a size estimate of 0.0. Resultant video is very small, e.g. 168 pictures, each of which is over 4mb, yields a video of about 30mb. Quality is horrible. All blocked and choppy.
- Add a video into the media selected (video can be placed anywhere in selected media) so that it is not pictures only and the choices become 1080, 720, 480. Size estimates of resultant file becomes more meaningful, resultant video, including the picture parts, is now good quality and choppiness / block effect goes away.

Simple to recreate. Just take two pictures and a short (3 second) video. Repeat steps above

Problem exists at all resolutions

Problem may exist prior to 5.2.1 of Virb Edit. But definitely exists at that level
  • I would additionally note that the creation time for a video including pictures is horrendous compared to a video with only video files. The addition of pictures to a file seems to slow the program down considerably and increase export time by at least an order of magnitude (both elapsed and processor).
