How to remove a clip from the timeline?

After dragging a video clip to the timeline, how does one remove it if it's no longer wanted in the video?
I've tried DELETE alone and with all permutations of modifier keys, dragging away, etc. I just can't get rid of this clip.... )-:
  • Right click on the clip in the timeline and select 'remove from video' from the popup context-menu.
  • Right-clicking does nothing for me...

Right click on the clip in the timeline and select 'remove from video' from the popup context-menu.

You'd think, but it doesn't bring up a menu (or do anything else apparent). It's a Mac, so there's only one mouse button, but the standard "Control click" does nothing. The same control-click in the Media Library does bring up a context menu.

I've tried all permutations of modifier keys with a mouse click while the cursor is over a clip in the timeline, and all have no apparent effect.

Same config and the right click works on mine (but not the Ctrl-Click).

What mouse do you have ? Did you enable the right click in System Preferences ?
  • Confusing....

I'm using the trackpad of a Macbook Pro. I'm not familiar with such an item in System Preferences (I checked trackpad, mouse, and keyboard, as well as the System-Preferences search).

But I do get context menus in other apps and in other areas of this app, so it's quite the mystery why it's not working in this specific location just for me....
  • I’m not sure whether CTRL-click is a settable option as an alternate to right-click on a mouse, but two-fingered click definitely is. In the trackpad section of System Preferences (the Point and Click pane) there’s a check box labelled “Secondary click” with three variants: “Click or tap with two fingers,” “Click in bottom left corner” and “Click in bottom right corner.” I use the two-finger variant myself.
  • Verified CTRL-click doesn't work on timeline, but it should. Opening a case to fix this. You'll have to update the mouse/trackpad preferences to enable two finger or secondary clicking.
  • Fix will be in the upcoming 4.2 maintenance release.
  • Thanks guys

Thank you VeloManR, I'm embarrassed that I didn't connect "secondary click" as being right click. It works as you describe.

And thank you Wurth for the upcoming fix.... I'd prefer to use CTRL-click than have the two-finger thing enabled.

(While I have you here Wurth, could I implore you to comment on https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?361831 ? I'm trying to pre-process my videos so that they match up *exactly* with the tracklog, because it's really painful to do so with the app.)
