VIRB Edit 4.1.0 is available

You can download it at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6593, or via the in-application auto-update.

This is a major release paired with the announcement of the VIRB Ultra 30.

Updates:
  • Allow updating cameras from within the application (without invoking WebUpdater)
  • Auto-create videos based on detected highlights
  • Optimize videos on import to allow for more performant editing
  • VIRB Ultra 30 support:
    • UHD video playback, editing, and export
    • Favorite clips
    • Manual highlights
    • Import camera-generated optimized videos

  • Multi-cam improvements:
    • Picture-in-picture
    • Video mirroring (for reverse cam)
    • Faster, simpler, and more reliable detection

  • Added built-in music tracks to add to videos
  • Added ability to set a point for relative elevation:
    • Elevation shows 0 at that point
    • Can force positive-only numbers

  • Automatically select default template based on available G-Metrix
  • Added optional Garmin-branded videos for export
  • ...an still no linux support ;( It would be great, because GoPro's Dashware is only for Windows and under Linux is no video editing software that supports telemetry available.
  • I just auto-created my first movie and find that towards the end a number of clips are completely black when the original material is fine.

    Shame.
  • Crashes on start - Database Upgrade

After install, it crashes and won't start after saying updgrading database.

    Not good.

  • Downgrade?

Is it possible to downgrade to prior version of Virb Edit? I'm still having problems exporting video ... blank elevation graph even though the elevation data (# only) is being displayed in other gauges.
  • After install, it crashes and won't start after saying updgrading database.

    Not good.

    Mine is doing the same.

Sorry you're having issues with the latest release. We've identified a couple issues in the database upgrade process that cause the crash when an error occurs during the upgrade. We should have an update out in the near future that will address it. In the meantime, you can go to the database folder at ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/VIRB Edit/ and rename the "Database" folder to something else. This should allow VIRB Edit to start up, though the projects and media library will be empty.

I'd also be interested in taking a look at your database so I can see what's going wrong with the upgrade, if you could zip it up and host it somewhere and send me a link to it.
  • We've just released a minor update 4.1.0 which fixes a few minor issues:

Improved support for device firmware updates
Fixed crash issue when upgrading database from before version 4.1
    G-Metrix Improvements

The download link is the same, in-app upgrade will work as well.

  • 15 minute clips?

When I did the 4.1.0 update my clips were no longer in 15 minute increments. Instead I have just one gigantic file to import. I just don't have that much space available! Is there a way for me to fix this, or is it a problem in the software? I thought version 4.1.1 would solve it, but it didn't.
