Transfering routes from HomePort to GPSMap 78 handhel

Hi there,

We are doing a kitesurfing expedition down the great barrier reef next week and have purchased 4 GPSMAP 78 units to help navigation.

We have waypoints marked out (lat, long, name) and I've worked out how to transfer these to routes in Homeport.

the issue is when I highlight the route and send it to the GPSMAP unit...the unit doesn't see the routes.

I've converted a route to a track in Homeport, sent that....and it can see the track.

2 questions

1) Any idea why ROUTES cannot be seen in the GPSMAP 78?
2) is there any issue with using TRACKS to navigate to (as that seems to work on the unit)

Cheers,

Phil
  • Where are you trying to view them? Routes sent should show in Route Planner, or under Find, Routes. Is that where you're looking?

Should be fine though to navigate using tracks.

Did you send the tracks and routes together, or the routes first and then the tracks? If so one may have overwritten the other. I'm not sure how Homeport sends data but I know that Basecamp can exhibit this behaviour in some circumstances. To avoid this when you send data go into the GPX folder on your 78 and rename the file sent, probably will be temp.gpx.

Now when you send the next lot of data it won't overwrite the first lot.
