Fired up my Garmin 740s yesterday (loaded with a G2 vision card) while starting out on the water, only to find the chart was showing all sorts of weird stuff (cross-hatched lines, land where there was water, etc.). It finally dawned on me when I removed the card and the display looked normal, that data on the card was corrupted. Worked fine one day, corrupted the next. The 740s spent the time in between in my electronics box as always. Where should I look for the gremlin, or should I always carry a backup copy of the card? Anybody got ideas??
Getting a replacement card is not a problem because I download them from the MyGarmin website. My question is: is suddenly finding a corrupted card a widespread problem (in which case having a replacement card handy is a good idea) or is this incident just a rare gremlin of unknown source.
