Trip specific SD card

I am leaving for a vacation in a few weeks. I am traveling north on Lake Michigan. I have all my waypoints and tracks stored on my computers. I would like to delete all waypoints and routes off my GPS, then create a trip specific SD card for this vacation. This way I don't have to sort through all my Southern Lake Michigan and Lake Huron routes while traveling. Can anyone think of a reason why this may not be a good idea? Thanks in advance. Dan

This should work just fine, in my opinion.

Make sure to make a back-up of your HomePort data and store it somewhere should you ever lose your data. Then you should always be able to re-create the data.

That will work just fine. It's pretty much what I do, have SD cards with routes and waypoints for different areas where I might travel. I keep them on the boat so I can change at will.
  • Dandietz,
That would work fine, BUT, you don't even need separate SD cards for it, just use FOLDERS!!

    Create Folders in Homeport:

NORTH (put all your North Waypoints, routes and tracks in this folder)

SOUTH (put all your south wp's.....)

Then create the same folders on the SD card, and then only load the folder you wish to use later. I go a step futher, and create more detailed folders:

    NORTH_WAYPOINTS
    NORTH _ROUTES
    NORTH_TRACKS
    SOUTH _WAYPOINTS
    SOUTH_ROUTES
    SOUTH_TRACKS

And then I REPLACE or MERGE the the folders I want to load into the plotter at any given time. This gives me total control of what is loaded in the plotter.

On HomePort 2.1, the ADM files placed on the card no longer use the folder icon. Functionality is the same, it's just that the icon has changed to better represent the ADM file-based storage on the marine SD card.

You'll still see the folder icon on a GPSMap78 where the "All Data" folder represents a collection of data derived from various gpx files on the device.

On My Collection, your data is now organized in "lists". This in terminology change was meant to suggest that data in "My Collection" can be shown in more than one list. These "lists" can be further organized into "List Folders" which is another reason why we needed a new icon to represent an ADM File.

The functionality described by above by MACHRIA above has not changed. Just the icons and terminology, which now match BaseCamp.
