Another new user - a trap for young players

I battled long and hard trying to work out how to get files from HomePort (v2.0.4) onto the SD card in a format that my 750s would recognise....

When exporting My Collection you get the option of GDB or GPX but neither of these file types are recognised by the 750s. I figured I needed an ADM file as that is what the 750s produces when it exports. Couldn't find anything on this on forums or HomePort help and went down the track of converting the GPX to ADM via GPS Utility (a pain as the free version does around 100 waypoints at a time). But it worked and I went fishing yesterday with waypoints loaded.

Subsequently talked to the shop that sold me the 750s and after several hours they called back to say that you have to drag 'n drop in HopePort from the PC library (eg My Collection) to the SD card which does create ADM. This seems to work.

Why isn't this made clear in the manual? Can we have an option in export to output in ADM as well as GPX and GDB?

Thank you very much for providing feed-back! As developers it is sometimes hard to imagine the struggles (due to UI shortcomings) users have with our software. We created the software after all, so what is logical to us, might not be logical to our users.

I am sorry we made this hard to discover.

Export is not supposed to be used as a means to transfer data to your device, that what we have the HomePort user interface for. Export is for exchanging data with other software mostly.

You can either drag-and-drop, or right-click on the data and use send-to in order to get the data to your device or card.

We'll see if we can make that clearer in the next release (which is still a while away).

There are no plans for ADM export. Only Garmin devices read this format, and HomePort provides the possibility (albeit it is apparently hard to discover) to create ADM files on Garmin devices (or cards).

Thanks. The "right click" option sounds good. I run a software development company in Australia and I NEVER leave the UI in the hands of developers! I find the average (not so dumb) user(s).

Keep up the good work as I'm sure you can see what needs to be changed.

Since he was from Kangaroo-land, "Oh krykeeeee"!!

Why taking so long?? Common man, your killing us. A few simple changes to HP would GREATLY benifit all of us. It takes me hours to do a few simple planning tasks in HP before a trip, which should take me 10 minutes.

Release the dang thing already!!!! I got HP at the same time as my current boat, I'm almost ready for a new boat, new plotters and new software..., you guys are still poking around with the 1st real release of HP. Get on it already before I/we end up selecting something else (aka another brand!!).
