Homeport and 441

Just downloaded homeport. Tried it first with the oregon 400c through usb and it works fine. Loaded maps, tranferred routes back to unit.

Next tried with the 441s. Newest version of software on 441 and latest update on Homeport. Copied maps from 441 to SD card. Home port will not read and gives error 'error occured while attempting to us marine data g2i v 2.51 chart product'. Transferred again to a different card with same results. Homeport will read in routes and waypoint from the card but not the maps. Tried 3 seperate cards (they all work for other applications) with no luck. Reinstalled Homeport and still no go. The oregon 400c continues to work fine through usb. Card read is sd and sdhc capable.
I noticed that this was the same error message that user of the oregon use to get before the update to Homeport. Did they fix one and break the other?

Any help appreciated.

  • Doesn't work on Vista??

Well, after 3 days of screwing around with Homeport and the 441s I have finally gotten it to read in the map from the 441s. It seems to have an issue with Vista SP2, at least on the 2 computers I tried. It would give an error attempting to read the sd card on 2 different computers running vista. They both had card readers built in (SD and SDHC capable). In desperation I tried it on a netbook running xp and it read it fine. It is unusable on the netbook however due to slow speeds. The phone tech support people were very nice but didn't really seem to have much knowledge of the product and told me it would not work with the maps built in to the 441 as there was no way to transfer them. When I told then you could transfer to a sd card from the unit they suggested I rename the file which didn't work either. They tried to be helpful but doesn't seem like they have heard of similiar problems. I have seen other psotings on this board as well as others with this same issue. AT any rate, with the current situation the program is useless to me.

  • I'm not sure what Garmin think about copying this map to different media but if you can read it on XP, than you can transfer it to your Vista too. Format SD on Vista and copy again to SD.
Actually I can't see much reason for using SD when you can have virtual removable drive like ImDisk.
  • Tried it

Yes, I've tried that. Get the same error message from homeport that an error occured while attempting to read map file. The oregon 400c hooked up through usb reads fine on the Vista machines.
