HomePort 2.0.4 issues

Thread for general feedback on HomePort 2.0.4.
  • I have been in the software and technology business for 30 years and the HP download is terrible at best. A user should not have to attempt to download the s/w multiple times, change file names etc. There are industry standard install scripts available for use, and it appears to me that Garmin has decided that there is a NIH theory of s/w development.
There are so many minor issues that should have been fixed for a release from a 1.0 to a 2.0 versioning of the code. Maybe there are only one or two coders for this product? The development is very slow and the clunkiness of the software does not seem to be improved very much. Also, the code does not appear to be very robust from an executable size and performance.
I am a big Garmin supporter and very much enjoy all of my Garmin toys. Mapsource is still my s/w of choice and am monitoring the HP s/w not using it until the s/w becomes more robust.

    Thanks RWIDMAN

My update installation hung at extraction. I went to my User folder, then AppData_Local_Temp and deleted all files. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled HP and checked for updates, d/ the update and it extracted fine.

Thanks for the suggestion to look for a recently modified folder.

If you are referring to my post, being a belt and suspenders guy, a former IT guy, and someone who has made some mistakes in the past from being overconfident, I renamed the files instead of just deleting them because I wasn't sure at that point that I was onto the correct solution to my problem. Renaming them would have allowed me to put the original names back if necessary.

Every new software application is bound to have a few bugs. How many versions of Windows has Microsoft released and how many "service packs" have been released for each? And look at the resources they have!

    You're welcome. :)
