    HOORAY !!!

Although it took numerous tries to get the D/L, I was finally successfuly.

My complaint with HP was solved.

It no longer searches my "A" drive constantly looking for an img file.

This bug fix along with the many others in this update are all very welcome.

    THANK YOU Garmin Software Team.
  • I like that the points in route are now "dots" rather than anchors but it looks like I have to recreate all of them to get the dots. I still need a way to count points in a route because my plotter is limited to 250 per route.

NOT SO FAST!! I am still gettign the DREADED ANCHOR for points created in a route using track points!!! AARRRGH!!!!

If you create a New Route using a Track, it uses the anchor icon for each point!! Garmin, I thought you guys fixed this?? And why don't you just create real waypoints when doing this so we can edit them later?? OR at least give us the option when creating a track: "Use WP's or un-editable points?"

I tried a quick bogus route using the route creating tool and it made points, not anchors. I didn't try making a track.

I'm having trouble with the terminology. In my mind, I think of a pre-planned trip as a "route" and the trail of where I've been (on the boat) as a "track". I think of points on a route where the boat turns as "points", not "waypoints". I think of places (marinas, anchorages, possibly fishing spots, etc.) as "waypoints".

Obviously, not everyone uses the same definitions.
  • OK, I just tried a bogus "track" and it made points, not anchors.

    What can I say?

BUT: If I create a "track", it counts the points which is one of my wishes. If I create a "route", it does not.

I guss I can create tracks so I can limit them to 250 points and then convert them to "routes".
  • hmmmm... mine created all Anchor's.... I wonder if it is because it is an old track (track created prior to the update)? see the attached image!! I'll try a new track and see what it does...

Regarding terminology, I call anything in a "track" a track point, and anything else, a WP. I can't see using anything other than a WP which can be changed, moved, edited, named, displayed or not based on the symbol... in anything other than a track. To me, tracks are just temporary holding memory, just a quick look at where you went. They can be used for history, and used to plan new ROUTES, which should be create with ALL Waypoints.
  • Ok, just created a quick brand new track of 3 points. Then right clicked on the new track and selected "Create Route from Selected Track". It created a new route, with the ANCHOR?????

    See attached.

    Yes it did.

I wonder if converting it in MapSource would work better.

Whan I was working I had to create database applications. Not as complicated as HomePort, but after testing for days and releasing them to the users, they sometimes came back with problems that I had not anticipated and it was "back to the drawing board".

So Neo, it's not that we're complaining here, we're just trying to get $100 software for our $30! ;)
  • Well, I'm "complaining"!! It has nothing to do with the cost of the software. It has to do with some basic desperately needed functionality to go with the other $15k we spent on Garmin hardware. ;)

This is not a rocket science, it's a pretty simple program/process really and the functionality has been around for 20 years in other software, so were not inventing the wheel here.

Being a programmer and in the IT business for 30 years now, I FULLY understand finding problems after the release and have absolutely no problem with that whatsoever. There is no possible way to antincipate and/or test every possible scenario. For example, I bet my problem (wth anchor) ends up being some isolated thing...

But I do have a problem with how slow the progress has been on Homeport. Give us some sort already!! Some filtering!!

It's really difficult to get around in the data right now. To simply create a new route from some saved track points and part of another existing route just took me over 1 hour. This would take me 30 seconds in Mapsource. The reason for time? No sorts or filters. So I have to create a fake route, then select the track I want to start with. Highlight the track points in the list I want to copy, copy them, now scroll down the list of 1200+ items (wp's, tracks, routes...) to find the newly created Route, select it, now position the curser at the front of the data list, Past the track points in. Now find the couple of fake track points I used to create the route, delete them from the route. Now go back to the 1200+ data list and scroll around and try and find those coupel of "fake" points, to delete them from the data. Now scroll around the 1200+ lsit again to find the route I want to copy some WP's from, select it, then highlight the WP's in that route I want to copy, select copy. Now again scroll down a giant 1200+ list again to find the newly created route, select it, now scroll down the data points in the route to where I want to insert the copied WP's, Past them in.

GEESH!! Have you guys at Garmin tried doing some basic tasks like this PRIOR to making your programming descisions???? I wonder!! I have to say, I'm really disapointed in this release (and that statement has nothing to do with the anchor problem, I'm sure that will get solved/figured out).

Honeslty, the way HP currently is, it makes simple tasks so difficult to do. I really think I'm going to go back to Mapsource somehow, I just DREAD the conversion of all my data back and how that may or may not go.... Adn then I have the issue of the mutli folders.. hmmmm...

I find the importing and exporting of routes from HomePort to MapSource and back pretty simple. It's not a "solution", but it is a viable work around.
  • Converting a route or 2 might be fine, but how do I convert my "organization" of folders, all with routes, WP's and tracks, some duplicated in multitple folders... I might have some issues and tons of work to convert back. I know I can export and import the data back into Mapsource, but making it meaningful will be some work.

To me, HP right now is like three quarters of a room painted with a beautiful new color paint. The new paint looks awesome!! But we can't let any guests in to see it until we finish the other quarter of the room becuase it looks rediculous un-finished.
