Copy .img map from GPSMAP 441 to Homeport

I'm a newbie here, so please forgive if this is answered. I'm trying to import my detailed map frmo my GPSMAP441 to Homeport. I did the export map option on the GPSMAP 441 and it created about a 1.0gb .img file. Homeport cannot load this in.

Am I doing something wrong?

One scenario where this seems to happen frequently is if you have an SD card that is not compatible with your card reader. This is especially true if you have an SD card that says SD HC and your SD card reader is not SDHC compatible.

The chances of the .img file being corrupt are slim. You could make the device write it again just to be sure.

Below is what you should do and what you should observe when you want HomePort to use a map from a device:
    1. Insert SD card in device. Choose the options on the device to write its map to the SD card.
    2. Launch HomePort
    3. Insert SD card to your card reader.
HomePort will show your SD card on the top left. It will show progress as it tries to read the map file off the SD card. Once the map reading is successful, it will switch to that map product.
  • Was this resolved?

I'm having the exact same issue with a 441s and Homeport. I have posted about it elsewhere. I contacted tech support and was intially told that Homeport would not support the built in maps on the 441. I told them that there is a function to transfer the maps to an sd card and that it is suppose to support the 441. The only suggestion was to try renaming the .img file but that didn't work either. Very frustrating as the only reason I paid for Homeport was to use with my 441.

  • In addition to making sure the SD card is compatible with your PC's card reader, remember that HomePort will only read the maps from an SD card. If you downloaded the maps to an SD card and then copied them to your hard drive, HomePort will not read them.

In my case, it won't read them from the SD card at least not on 2 vista machines. Reads ok on a netbook computer running xp, but very slowly. Tried running the vista in xp mode but it still won't read the maps from sd. I've spoke with 2 people in software support and quite frankly they didn't seem to know much about using the product with Garmin GPS.

See if your Vista machines can see the files on the SD card.

You don't say anything about the SD card, but I would try a different card. A generic, 2GB SD card. nothing fancy. Not high density.

As noted in the other post, I have tried 3 different sd cards. Vista does see the files and all the cards worked in a xp machine. Vista also reads the map off of an oregon 400c through a usb cable.

  • Direct reader works, USB adapter does not?

    Hi Folks:

I have successfully gotten my maps to an SD card - when inserted directly into my card reader on my desktop, it works fine... when I insert the SD card into a USB adapter for my laptop, HP does not recognize the SD card (in the USB adapter)...??

My laptop does recognize the USB adapter - meaning if I open "My Computer", I see the SD card and can view it's contents - HP does not, if I do an "import", HP does not see the card (using the USB adapter)...

Any thoughts? - my laptop (which is on my boat) does NOT have a direct SD reader on it... HELP :)

Does the USB adapter that doesn't work with HomePort on the laptop also not work on the desktop with HomePort?
  • Recopied maps and works

Prior to trying the adapter in the desktop, I "rebuilt" my SD card - meaning, deleted all files and recopied them over... looked the same upon visual inspection, but solved my issue.

USB adapter now works in laptop and desktop - and continued to work in native card reader on desktop...

Sorry, can't explain why it didn't work or why recopying did...but... problem solved :)
