Oregon 450 and downloaded charts

I have a new Oregon 450 for which I downloaded a g2 chart onto a microSD card in the device. I can see the charts on the Oregon - however when I connect the Oregon to my pc running HomePort it does not recognise the chart and only shows the world base map. What am I doing wrong? Why is the downloaded chart not visible in HomePort?

What map files do you see on the microSD card? The files name should start with gmap and end with a .img extension.
Also, does HomePort show the microSD card at all? i.e. In the 'Devices' list on the top left, do you see two devices- the Oregon and a Removable Media?

    Neolite

When connected to the PC I see in the left hand pane, the Oregon unit, and the SD card.

I purchased and downloaded a g2 blue chart of HEU463S - Bristol Channel and England S/W onto a micro SD card for use with my Oregon 450.

On my card the following three files are visible (in a folder named Garmin):

    HXEU463S.gma
    HXEU463S.img
    HXEU463S.unl

I have also purchashed a copy of HomePort. However, when my GPS is connected to the PC I can see the micro SD card - but the map is not loading into HomePort.

I have also tried putting the card directly into the laptop which makes no difference either.

    What else can I try?

Please try renaming HXEU463S.img to gmapsupp.img. I'm expecting it to then start working with HomePort. But please also verify that it continues to work with your device.

Yes that does work but then it makes the chart inoperable on the device.

I also note that the level of detail that HomePort appears to pick up from the Chart is very little - is this correct?

Based on what we've identified here, this is an issue with the downloaded map content having a name that HomePort wasn't expecting. This issue will be investigated in an upcoming release of HomePort. You will receive the update automatically when it is available and the map will start working on both the device and on HomePort with its original name.

In the meanwhile, the workaround would be to use a separate SD card for the device and HomePort. i.e. use the original card with the HXEU463S.img file on the device and use a separate card with gmapsupp.img with HomePort.

Regarding your question about the level of detail, it is just a question of zooming in enough to see more detail. As soon as HomePort switches to the map on the card, it now has available all the map details that are in the map file.
  • Has this been fixed yet? HomePort, g2, Oregon 450

I am very distressed to learn about this problem. I have just purchased an Oregon 450, BlueChart g2, and HomePort. I created my first route and wasn't able to transfer it to the GPS. This is unbelievable! I'm heading to the Everglades at the end of the month and need to be able to transfer my routes!

It troubles me that the last post on this issue was in June of 2010. There has certainly been time to address this significant issue with these Garmin products. I specifically purchased these products from ONE vendor to avoid any compatibility issues.

Also, additional instructions would be appreciated for the "work around" included in the last post. They are not very clear. I tried copying the g2 SD card to another SD and could not read it. Is it copy protected?

    Thanks,

You can copy the G2 Vision card and the copy can be read by HomePort but not by your plotter. Only a genuine Garmin G2 Vision card can be read by your Garmin plotter.

So, make a copy to use with HomePort and return the original to your plotter. That's what I have done.

    BTW: That's what NeoLite posted:
