I have a few HomePort questions after hacking around with it for several days and trying to follow the HELP operating instructions:
1. I have a 4208 with G2 Vision card. I loaded HomePort on my laptop using a Garmin supplied SD card. With my G2 vision card loaded, I go to Homeport -- View -- Chart Views. My four Chart View choices appear to be Navigation or Fishing or Both or Overview. But the Fishing link and the Both link are not active so I cannot bring up the Fishing Chart view. My G2 Vision Card is 010-C0708-00, VUS007R Feb 07.

2.Does the Garmin supplied HomePort SD card have any further role after it has been loaded on my laptop?

3.Since I have a G2 Vision Card, do I also need to transfer other software from the 4208 unit to support the HomePort operation?

4.Am I able to get the waypoints, tracks, and routes that are currently on the 4208 over to the HomePort file on the laptop? If so, how.

5.When I create waypoints and routes on the laptop, does the G2 Vision card carry them back to the 4208?

6.Is there a way to load the G2 Vision Card data to the laptop HomePort file permanently so I don’t need to pull the card off the boat every time I want to use HomePort?

7.Same question as (6) relative to other info from the 4208 unit loading permanently to the laptop HomePort file.

Thanks for your help and patience!

I would have expected to see the Fishing Chart option enabled for your map. We will investigate this and get back to you.
The Garmin supplied HomePort SD Card can be used for data transfer between HomePort and your device. You can copy everything from your SD card onto your hard disk for backup and then erase the contents of the SD card.
You do not need to transfer any other software from your device to support HomePort. You would insert an SD card to the device and let the device write some data to the SD card. Once that data has been written, HomePort will read maps and transfer wpts/rtes/trks to/from the device.
Due to map licensing and other reasons, you cannot permanently copy your map data from your device to your computer. Any SD card you have will work fine for transferring data to/from the device and HomePort. You don't want to use the G2 Vision card always for this.
You can transfer data you created, like wpts/rtes/trks from the device to HomePort permanently. Once the data shows up in HomePort, you can drag and drop it to 'My Collections' and it will show up there every time you run HomePort.

Regarding the fishing chart not showing up for My G2 Vision Card is 010-C0708-00, VUS007R Feb 07, this is a because that chart uses an older format for advertising the availability of fishing contours. Newer versions of that product show up with fishing charts in HomePort. We will look into adding the ability to view fishing charts for your version of this product in a future release.

Thanks NeoLite. How will I know that a fix is available?

HomePort will prompt you automatically when a new version is available. It will also tell you what changes were made in that version.

  • Home Port fishing map

I have VUS001R Jul 08 (Southwest florida) and can not display the fishing maps. I could not buy the 09 version last week because of the recall you had in place for most of the year.

Should the 08 version show the fishing maps?

Do I also have to wait for a home port update?

It is to bad features that were on the 09 series and could not be purchased are not available. I was told by West Marine that I could buy the 2010 version at half price when it is released - not a very good deal.

Reading map data direct from SD card?

I have a 76cx and a BlueChart G2 US map SD card. The only way I have been able to load the maps into HomePort is with the SD card in the handheld, and selecting SETUP/INTERFACE/USB MASS STORAGE on the handheld.

I have tried inserting the map card into the adapter and inserting directing into the computer. The card is recognized and shows up as a drive letter, but HomePort doesn't see it.

I've tried importing and there are no recognizable file formats on the disk.

How can I use the SD outside of the handheld? It MUST be possible.
