Symbols

Glad to hear that you like HomePort. Regarding the symbols, I agree with you. We are very cognizant of the using symbols that are marine-centric. The icons for routes/tracks/waypoints, the default symbol for waypoints etc were all designed with this in mind. Also, there are around 25 marine symbols available to use with waypoints.

If you were wondering about adding more marine symbols you could use with waypoints, we are a bit constrained in that we would like to support the common denominator of the symbols supported by marine devices. i.e. if we add a brand new symbol and it is not supported on your device, your user experience is going to be awkward when you transfer that waypoint to your device and the device shows you a different symbol than what you selected in HomePort.

On this subject, I find exactly what you said your trying to avoid by creating too many non-compatable symbols, is exactly the current case. There are lots of symbols in HP to select from, that do not exist or work on both my 400C and 5215. Might I suggest a "Symbol configuration" section in HP? Where we select the devices we will use with HP (in my case the 5215 and 400c), and have HP only show and allow use of those symbols which are compatable with those devices.

HP has a bunch of symbols that are not on my 5215, and yet my 5215 has a bunch of symbols available that are not available in HP.

Lastly, I noticed if I select a symbol in HP that does not exist on my 5215, and then import it onto my 5215 via the SD card, the 5215 will lock that item (can't edit it). Instead, the 5215 in this case should just default the symbol to a default generic symbol (box, circle, whatever defaul WP is...), and allow us to edit it. But I think that is a 5215 sofrware issue you prolly don't want to hear about. ;)
