Lack of ability to change route icons

Do you plan on fixing the issue that HP cannot change the icon or name of a waypoint if it was created using the route option? Especially since the program automatically extracts names from the chart like "15' depth". These names mean nothing to me.

The program should have the ability to change the name and icon of any waypoint no matter how it was created.

If you want individual control of the waypoints used in a route, you could create individual waypoints, select the waypoints (using shift-click or ctrl-click), right click to bring up the context menu, and select the 'Create route using selected waypoints' option.

Or, you could create the individual waypoints, then using the route tool, click the waypoints you want to use, in which case you can edit the names/symbols/etc of those waypoints and the changes will be reflected in the route.

If you use the route tool and click on parts of the map where there are no waypoints, HomePort does not create waypoints. i.e you won't end up with dozens of extra waypoints to manage every time you create a route, and there is no option to edit these points themselves.
  • Neo,
What then happends to these "suedo WP's"? If you save and transfer a route with these suedo WP's that were created by pointing and clicking, do the points get tranferred into the plotter? Or are they changed into WP's at that point? .....?

And, why would they not just create a new WP, so it can then be named, symbols changed, comments added, moved,..... ??

The points that are created during the process of route creation are embedded in the route when they are transferred to the device. If these points had been made waypoints, then you would end up with dozens of waypoints to manage for your each of your routes.

re: Your reply to TAKING FLIGHT

    Neo,

I just used the route tool to create a route that had 25 segments and 23 of the segments had the "anchor" attached. All of the route segments were randomly placed. Two of them were just small points, the rest anchors. If I had to place 25 of my own waypoints in order to draw a route with waypoints that I wanted to have, that would take away the usefulness (and speed) of using this program. User defined route waypoints are very much needed or at least lets get rid of the anchor symbols (just a simple dot would be better) at route segment intersections.

    Thanks for your consideration,

    Chief Trip :)

Not to be seen as "piling on", but I agree. "Turns" in a route should be small dots. They don't really need a symbol at all, they are just places where the route takes a different direction.

See my post on the thread "CHIEF TRIP's Wish List ".
  • And for the record and voting purposes... I would officially like to pile on!! :D

I'm having a hard time understanding why garmin is trying to avoid having these WP's created, and instead making them some un-editable non-WP object? I think I speak for us all when I say, we would prefer the creation of "dozens of WP's" (which are editable, re-usable, movable,...) over having these "suedo route WP's" (or whatever they actually are?) created when using the chart to create a route.

There is nothing difficult about managing WP's, especially when you have a great program like HP!! ;)

OR, how about give us BOTH options?? When we create a route using the chart, first ask something like: "Do you wish to create new points as Waypoints or un-editable, Route points?"
