HomePort, Oregon 400c, and internal BlueChart

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to view a chart, and create waypoints and routes, from the convenience of my laptop prior to a trip. Seems like HomePort can do all this and more. But will HomePort be able to use the BlueChart map pre-loaded in my Oregon 400c? I have only the map that came with the unit ... no CD's or other purchased maps.

If it IS possible to use the Oregon's internal map with HomePort, is it just a matter of transferring the pre-loaded .img file to the laptop or other storage media?

Just want to make sure I'll be able to do what I intend prior to purchasing HomePort. Thanks in advance for the help!

Wow - no one knows the answer to this one? Thanks to those who at least checked it out. Hopefully someday Garmin customer support will get back to me ...

I do not have the definitive answer to this one. We are investigating this and will have an answer for you in a few days.

I can confirm that HomePort will load the preloaded BlueChart maps from the Oregon 400c. We appreciate your patience with this question.

Oregon 400c charts

I'm a little lost. I thought I could use HP to copy the .img file from the unit to my pc, open it in HP, make whatever edits I want to and copy back to the Oregon 400c. I cannot figure out how to do this. I've copied the .img file to the included SD card, I thought I could then Import it into HP, but it's not a supported format for the Import. Can the map file be edited on the pc and copied back to the unit ? Is there a tutorial for Oregon 400c users on what you can use HP for ?

The .img file is the map. HomePort does not edit maps from your device.

The data you can edit is the waypoints/routes/tracks that you've created on the device. To view/edit data from your 400c, connect the 400c to your PC with HomePort running. All your data will show up on the top left of the application. HomePort will also show the preloaded maps that came with your device.

Thanks NeoLite, excuse my ignorance, so I connect the unit to pc with HP running. I can then edit wp/rt/trk and send back to unit ? Does this mean I can create a waypoint on pc and export it back to the unit ?

Sorry Neolite, I'm a newbie, but is the short answer I cannot do any route planning on the pc and copy that to the 400c ? All I can do is things on the 400c and then basically look at it on the computer ??

Yes. You can create new waypoints/routes/tracks on HomePort and send it to the device.
