HP sourced .gbd file not recognised on 4012

Can't say I'm having fun with HP yet as I'm having a few more problems, now I can't import a .gdb file exported from Homeport as my 4012 plotter apparently doesn't see the file.

Got a new 2gig SD card, placed in the 4012, turned on 4012 to format, took card to PC, exported folder from My Collection, check that folder is on SD card........yes, I can see 2 files on the card, one is my waypoints folder in .gdb format.

Next take card to 4012 go to Home>Information>Used data>Data Transfer>Card>Replace from card...........expect to see the .gdb file available for selection......nothing on the screen to select!

Tested SD card by importing folder into Homeport on my home notebook and no problems there, so the card must be Ok.
Tested reader on 4012 by inserting G2 Vision card, maps appear OK so reader must be working.

Try again same result, can anyone (neolite) see a problem with what I've done or have any idea what's happening here.

Thanks, Tony

    Tony,

I'm assuming that you are manually exporting your data into the gdb format and copying it to some location on the SD card. (using File->Export in HomePort)

Instead, let HomePort do all that for you. Just drag and drop folders or data that you want onto the SD card. The SD card will show up in the Libraries and Devices section of the user interface, on the top left. Drag and drop works just the way you are used to with Windows Explorer. Another alternative is to right click the folder or data that you want to send to the SD card, then select Send To and pick the SD card.

If you follow either of the directions above, HomePort will talk to the SD card, figure out what format your 4012 wants the data in, where it wants the data to be put etc and then will automatically perform the transfer for you.

If you haven't noticed before, there is also a help file that you can access from the Help menu. There is a section named 'Transferring Data' in that file too.

Let us know how that works for you.

    NeoLite,

Just copied a folder from HP library into HP devices and although it appears as folder in devices when I check contents of the SD card it is not there, any suggestions?

Tony, reread neolite's response a little slower, especially the part about not using your old windows directory habits!:)

    Tony,

Try these directions. At any point, if what you see doesn't match what I'm describing, let me know:
    • Connect the SD card to HP. You should see a new device for your 4012 show up in the Library and Devices area of HP. HP should also switch to the map from your 4012. You should also see one or more folders under the 4012 device in HP.
    • Create a new folder under 4012. Right click on the 4012, select New Folder. Give it a descriptive name, example FloridaTrip.
    • Select a waypoint that you want to transfer. Right click and select Send To, then select the 4012 and then select FloridaTrip.
    • In Windows Explorer, verify that a file named FloridaTrip.adm has been created on your SD card. Also verify that a file named GarminDevice.XML exists on your SD card.
    • Now take the card to your 4012 and verify that the 4012 gives you the option to import data from FloridaTrip.adm
