Waypoint Symbols in Routes

I imported several routes from MapSource. This went well.

I then created a new route to extend one of the existing routes. The symbols for the waypoints in the old routes are dots which is fine. The symbols for the new route which I combined with an existing route are anchors.

How to I change the symbols to dots?

Is there a way to set default route symbols?

HomePort does not have support for setting the default symbol. This is something we will evaluate adding for a future release.

Thanks. Is there a way to change the anchors to something else (like dots) ?

    Sure can ......

after you alter or build a new route change to the mouse pointer. Put your pointer on the anchor symbol and left click your pointer. The bottom of your HP chart will open into a properties editing area. You'll see a selction that will display what symbol your currently using .. click on the down arrow just ot the right of the symbol and it will open into a large library of symbols. Find the one you want to replace the anchor with and click on it. Yes, you'll have to do that with each waypoint anchor symbol. :D

I believe I tried that but I will try it again when the other PC boots.

Nope. I can change waypoints that I created as waypoints (my marina, etc.) the way you described, but not ones that HomePort created when I created a route.

Clicking on the anchor (or dot on the old routes) brings up the screen to edit the route. I can remove or edit waypoints but not change the symbol.
  • OK, If I create a route in MapSource, the route waypoints are black flags. I can't seem to change them in that program.

If I then import the route into HomePort, the route waypoints become small dots. Any new waypoints added to the route are represented by anchors.

(After a few minutes going back and forth between the two programs):

OK, I'm totally confused and frustrated. Waypoints created by either program when creating a route on the chart with the mouse cannot have their symbols changed although importing a MapSource route into HomePort changes the flags to dots. Importing a HomePort route into MapSource does not change the symbols.

So far, my conclusion is that some route waypoints can have their symbols changed, some cannot.

    New research:
Creating several waypoints and then creating a route from those waypoints rather than creating a route on the chart with the mouse apparently results in waypoints that can be changed.

    OK .... here's what I've discovered

kind of interesting ... not sure if this is a program anomaly or by design.

I've found a way around this issue .......

Using the build waypoints tool to enter your route points ... once you enter all your waypoints you can .........

Watch the video for a more in depth look at how to do this. :D

    Yes, that works.

In my case, I'm creating routes on the ICW or on rivers. A route can have dozens of "waypoints" which are in reality, just places to make a steering change. One I just counted has 115 waypoints. With these routes, I can just tell my wife to stay on the line. ;)

I don't so much care what the symbols are, but the anchors take a lot of room on the screen, the dots do not. I have a few "real" waypoints. My marina for one. I can give them appropriate symbols.

My "workaround" for now is to create the routes in MapSource, then import them into HomePort for combining, splitting, etc.
