Edge 820 and Vivoactive 3 combination VO2 max

Hi,
I've recently got my vivoactive 3 and have a question.
I'm using my edge 820 with a scosche heartrate sensor when cycling
when I open my app I now see the VO2Max but it stays at "no information"

When I cycle and want to get the VO2Max estimate should I also start the exercise on my Vivoactive 3 or is starting it on the Edge 820 enough?
If I have to start it on my watch should I than also start it on the Edge 820 to also get those stats in?

Feels weird to use both devices to track the same exersize while it's in the same app and family.

Hope someone can help me out.

The Vivoactive 3 will not be able to calculate Vo2 max for cycling without a powermeter. The Vivoactive 3 is not able to pair with Powermeters so it won't do Vo2 Max for cycling

    Clear.
what confused me was the remark that vo2max would be updated by activities you do or even collected heart data.

I'm still not clear on how it works. It would be useless if it only calculates vo2max for runners or walkers.

I row and do elliptical and power but most of all I bike. I use the edge 820 for that so will those valid be also added in the calculation? Otherwise it wouldn't make sense.

If you use one device for all it's ready but the song thing from Garmin I actually find that you can seamlessly integrate for example the edge with watches.

I wish there was a clear explanation on that.

The vivoactive 3 manual states clearly that in order to get a VO2 max estimate you need to complete a walk or run with HR data. HR data alone (i.e. without accompanying activity) is not enough.

It would be useless if it only calculates vo2max for runners or walkers.

It would be useful for some runners.

The edge will give you a VO2 max estimate for cycling, but only if you have heart rate data and power meter data along with your activity. And this estimate will not be transfered to your VA3.

    Sounds logical.
I did see a video however claiming that even if you did not do that walk it would make an estimate on collected data.

Will.see if I can find that video.
I did find it a bit weird seeing how vo2max works but I'm no expert.

Guess.best thing to do is just make a walk every 1-2 weeks and see if I progress
