Ok, so this is what I have done as my left pedal has cleat and pedal interface play. I unscrewed the star nut and took out the part that you adjust the tension. Then carefully push the tension bolt out of the body , once its out clean everything and dry it as much as you can. Reassemble and hopefully all done. If it helps do one at a time if you struggle to remember how to put everything back you can look at the other pedal for guidance.
Hope this works.
Yes pedal body wear/looseness has been an issue for me. I just crashed when my right foot came loose during a routine sprint. Broken collarbone requiring surgery. This should not be happening. I have also had the left foot come out during a sprint but was able to save it. I have tightened them down and have new cleats but this appears to be an issue. Recovering from surgery and reconsidering using these.
This has basically happened to me too. Even on the one that hasn't broken like this is still very loose. I've just bought brand new Keo cleats and the play is massive. Did GARMIN get back to you and can anyone provide a link to new pedal bodies? Or can these be replaced under warranty?
No reply from Garmin. There is a long plastic screw that helps keep the pedal body together. My left one came loose last year causing the same problem. I screwed it back in with Lock-Tight on the ends of the threads. That should really never happen either. I just ordered some replacement pedal bodies online.
The reality is they essentially just wear out over time with all the clipping & unclipping. IMO they are not as durable as they should be and wear out too quickly. And the screw through the pedal body type design isn't great.
Yeah I agree. I've also just inspected mine as per this article (as I've found them to be really stiff rotationally too) - https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=lM9nnhlQDs0I7cOhNth4z9&partNumber=010-01787-00&tab=topics&topicTag=region_pedalmaintenance and turns out I have a gap between the body and cartridge. Another thing for the list of what's going wrong with them!
Just a wee update here - I contacted GARMIN UK and they were great. Sorted me out with new pedals. Great customer service and worth reaching out directly if you are facing similar issues.
I have also struggled with the lash between cleat and pedals. When I had the Vector2 pedals, I finally purchased Garmin cleats and the problem went away. They cost double so he warned. I recently upgraded to the Shimano V3 pedals and so far so good. I have about 4000km on the same V3 bodies and cleats.
