Right Pedal Continues to be “disconnected”

Like I’ve noticed some of you have suffered, I too cannot get the right pedal to consistently connect. After receiving my V3, I immediately put them on and rode. And of course, immediately had a low battery warning, with zero seconds of use.

Batteries changed. Since then, four rides—3 with a “disconnected” right pedal. Battery door has been checked, tape has meticulously been applied, prayers have been said. Nothing.

Garmin, this is getting extremely frustrating. $1K invested + new batteries + following all of your recommendations meticulously. And still very unsatiafied. Very very close to giving up on Vector.

I'm having the exact same issues with mine, todays ride saw multiple 'Right Pedal Disconnected' and when looking at the power screen on 820 screen, it showed 0% Right foot, occasionally this would fix itself on a reclip-in but again, not happy at all with these pedals. :(

After working with Theo a few months ago on multiple issues, Garmin sent me new pedals. I had my second set of pedals dialed in and working well, until... Today on a 75 mile ride, the pedals worked fine the first 20 miles. Then I stopped at a rest stop, and got back on the bike, and my 520 was only showing 1/2 the expected watts. Occasionally it would appear like maybe it was going to work, for a second or two, then go back to 1/2 watts

Stopped and attempted recalibration, which failed(locked up actually). Rode a little bit, and then stopped and shut down BT on my phone and made sure Garmin app was not running. Still only showed 1/2 wattage, and got a 1024 calibration error, maybe it was 1045. I forget.

At the next rest stop, I installed new batteries in both pedals quickly, and successfully recalibrated this time. And rode the remaining 40 miles without incident. At no time did I get a low battery warning, and these batteries are new enough(Energizers, not cheapos) that it shouldn't have been an issue anyway. Looking at Training Peaks data, it shows right pedal just went to zero at the rest stop.

Really not too thrilled with these pedals so far. I had a Powertap G3 that just worked for 3 years no bs. I'd change the battery when I got low battery warning, otherwise bullet proof. These Vectors are really hard to love...
  • I am in the same situation. I bought a pair of Vector 3 pedals last summer and immediately experienced the same problems.

I followed up on some advice:

    1) the screw-cap replacement,
    2) taping of the batteries,
    3) pre-loading of the contact spring
    4) just regularly changing the batteries.

    Nothing has worked so far.

I typically receive a "Right Pedal Disconnected" notice on my Edge 520 around once every 5 minutes on every ride. i have begun to just ignore it.

This is very unfortunate, as I have found that every other Garmin device I have used has been excellent, bulletproof and easy to use.

Any advice on fixing this would me much appreciated.

    Garmin - can you advise?

    Thanks,
    James
  • I've also been having "Right pedal missing" problems since the last firmware update. I've upgraded my battery doors and circuit boards, put in batteries, paired, unpaired, repaired again and again. The problem goes away for a bit, but then comes back. Pedals were rock solid prior to the firmware change. I'm trying to upload my .fit file but this stupid forum keeps telling me that it can't upload the image.

I'm having the exact same problem - have replaced both batteries but still no lights on my right hand pedal. Incredibly frustrating given that ive only used the pedals for about 30 hours since I bought them. Garmin support are never very helpful when I contact them either - always just textbook answers copied from their FAQs! Anyone got any suggestions?
  • So I added a touch of baby oil to the contacts and batteries per the Garmin "battery change" YouTube video. I feel stupid having to add baby oil to a $1000 power meter, but my first ride was successful. No dropouts, no "right pedal missing" and pedals immediately woke up after a stop. I'm certainly not declaring my problem "fixed," but at least this is a start. Worth a try if you're having this problem.
  • Hi,
Are these issues resolved now? I have just purchased a new pair and had the "right disconnected" on first ride.
I have just bought some new batteries but yet to install, but do I need to ready myself for disappointment??
  • Definitely try the mineral oil/baby oil thing that they show in their YouTube video on battery changes. You will know immediately if it works or not. And customer service will ask you if you've done it when you contact them. They won't move forward until you've tried all the "troubleshooting tips."

I truly love these pedals when they're working - but it's been a love/hate relationship every time garmin releases a firmware update and breaks them.
  • For what it is worth. I have the same symptoms on all 3 pairs of dual side vectors.

    Only differences is:
    - the right pedal missing occurs only after I stop pedaling eg. For coffee etc.

Otherwise, data is fine, dynamics data is accurate and constant as well.

To me, it just seems like a sleep/wake error which occurs intermittently. I have not noticed any other form of issues.
