Viable 935 alternates? Apple Watch maybe?

Seriously wondering about my 935, it's still under Wiggle returns timescale, and I'm starting to see more issues. I've spoken to Wiggle today, they would swop it but out of stock and no ETA for new stock!

Does anyone have a view on credible alternatives to look at whilst I make a decision? Has anyone else used the Apple Watch? This website seems to think it can do most of what I want https://theapplewatchtriathlete.com/

Anything else to look at?

Ability to follow workouts easily
  • Did some longer runs and bike tours with a friend who has a glittering apple watch - I wouldn't give my forerunner for it (even I also have to live with some unsmart features actually)...
...as already said, if sport activies are your main focus, the apple watch is not the best choice.
  • I have both the AW3 LTE and 935. Its not even a comparison between the two. AW is a great smartwatch; 935 is a great sports watch. Buying the AW to do sports is like trying to drive a toyota prius on the beach - I can do it but I keep getting stuck and trying to come up with ways to get it to work the right way. AW did nothing but drive me crazy for 2 months. So many issues I could go on and on. Biggest killers for me were lack of ability to edit workouts so if you ran 3 miles but treadmill says 3.5 you can't change it and the fact that you had to rely on 3rd party apps for everything. The problem with the 3rd party apps was that the better ones weren't that great and were just made by a developer as a part time gig. So as soon as apple would update their watch parts of the apps stopped working. Major pain. I won't even get started on the HR and GPS issues. When swimming the touch screen doesn't work half the time. Need 3rd party apps to get FIT files. Apple's set up is all weird - so like when I view a run I can't see the min/max HR unless I go to apple health to just view that data, its not included with the run - just tons of weird stuff. Its like they tried to make a really bad sports watch. They have the hardware but their software is terrible. Oh, and all of those 3rd party apps cost money and some have subscriptions. It adds up fast. Sounds like you just got a lemon 935. It happens. Most products have a 1% or so lemon rate.

Sure, if looking for a downgrade.

Thanks for the detailed response, good to hear from someone who owns both! Guess I'll try and swop out the 935 and hope the replacement is better...
  • I've only had my 935 for 6 months but in general I have to say I love it overall as a training tool

The glitches have come from general connect issues and the occasional minor firmware update issue

Apple devices tend to attract huge brand loyalty quite often in obvious contravention of the facts - and it's one of the company's key strengths to perpetuate those loyalties

I've owned a variety of apple devices and they are often very strong at doing whatever they aim to deliver but usually delivered in the way that apple has determined is best for you

So as per the other posts if you want a smart watch with sports functions then go apple if you want a sports watch with some smart watch functions go 935
