935 owners - how are you finding GPS?

On the verge of swapping out my Fenix 5 for a FR935 mostly due to GPS accuracy. My issues could be somewhat rectified with a footpod but no good if I'm constantly changing pace and stride types for intervals.

Please can you let me know if the GPS seems mostly accurate - I'm especially keen to hear from those who have come from a F5 too.

Thanks,

Since I bought my FR935 I ran on a lot of different trails in different conditions without any GPS issue.
I also ran different measured distances and I can tell you that the discrepancy that I experienced is about 1% which is great in my opinion.
  • If it seems to take a long time to get a fix, one thing to check is in "about" on the watch, scroll down until you see EPO and make sure it's "current". Syncing will usually update the EPO data, and it may go state in a few days.

I had another problem last weekend, my 935 stopped tracking location and elevation at about 3.5 of a 4.5 trail run. Heart Rate and pace information was recorded. The pace information seems suspect, as I would imagine it would rely on the location data. I have been in touch with Garmin Product Support, and they have asked me to delete the activities and settings folder from the watch. Are these folders constantly backing up to Connect, or should I take the extra step and save them to my hard drive? Activity link below, if interested, thanks for any input.

  • Definitely keep the settings folder backed up once you have recreated them. The actvtivities are sent to Connect after each connection. However, I have copies of all my recorded activities going back several years safely backed up on my computer.

Hoe do I backup the settings folder?
  • Connect to a PC/Mac. Once the Garmin drive has mounted, copy and save the folders as you would normally. I have mine do this automatically every time I connect.

Garmin has some support advice for this - https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?fa...e=faqSearch%2F

Copy the folders completely. The .fit files that are in the folders are what you drop into NEWFILES when you want to restore them. Only restore the contents of one folder at a time. Trying to do them all at once can cause problems such that you might have to start all over again.

Keep all your personal information upto date in Garmin Connect on the interweb. This data can then be quickly synched back to your device.
  • What that support article doesn't mention is how to back up and restore your third party Connect IQ apps/settings, as well as your activity history, courses and segments, if you care about preserving that stuff. (Most people don't look at old activities on their watch.)

The contents of the following folders should be copied back to their original location (not NEWFILES):
    - APPS
    - ACTIVITY
    - COURSES
    - SEGMENTS
    - SEG_LIST

I just noticed my new 935 is giving different data verus running partners garmin (don't know what it is).
We run the same distance, same time, but get different times, distance and ave pace. See screenshot attached.
The last run we did my watch was locked onto GPS for at least 10 mins before starting.
Again,on last run, I noticed my watch was varying in pace from 10min/mile to 7m30 over very short period of time and no way were we going at 10 min mile.
His was quite solid at 7:20 to 7:30.
We checked out distances using google maps and his is correct.
I think it looks like I need to get onto Garmin, but just wanted to see if there were any obvious stupid things I could be missing.

according to some website the accuracy of the gps is mediocre at best (http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Garmin_935) enough to screw up a marathon training plan. it turns out I am training for a marathon.

i could run with a footpod but it is self calibrated against the gps if the gps is so bad then what is there about the quality of the calibration?

I take information on the internet with a grain of salt. and I made a run of 800m interval with 400m rest.it was a structured workout which means I was not pressing the lap button myself.
and the lap mark was farther and farther away from the starting position

it could be that the track was not really 400 metres it is a public track.. probably they did not care to measure properly

is the gps worse in track with the curves?

what is your advice to have better accuracy without having to splurge 200 more for a stryd which seems to be the state-of-the-art device when it comes to accuracy. I only have an adidas ant+ footpod.

    thank you for your input.
