Should I move from F5 to 935?

Had my F5 for about two months and initially fell in love with it. However, I am facing the below issues which are making me consider returning it for the 935 and just wanted people here to confirm the 935 doesn't also fail in these areas..

Current pace is off a lot during runs (especially near trees)
GPS falls short during most runs (eg today ran 3.4 mile as seen by Strava app on my mobile but F5 recorded 3.2 mile)
Watch strap - buckle digs in quite a bit especially when done up tight during an activity.
OHR - resting seems okay but will occasionally check the widget and it skyrockets for no reason before coming back down again. And activities generally get a lower recorded HR.
Altimeter - keep having to set this either manually or using GPS and keep the setting as automatic but it goes way off after a few hours from my usual 20ft to -+300ft

Would be interesting to see if the non GPS related issues also occur in the 935 seeing as it's running the same software.

Thanks,
  • I have a Fenix 5 and a very close friend of mine has a 935 (I advised him to buy the 935 rather than F5 after long discussion as to what he wanted the watch for - mainly activities and not as an every day watch). There is a simple truth that (currently) the metal elements to the case and sapphire screen of the Fenix 5/5s (but not 5X so much, oddly) compromise RF signal transmission and reception (GPS, BLE and ANT+) at the expense of a better looking (subjective I know) watch with a scratch proof screen. GPS pace and distance, from even the best in class GPS watches, is not perfect; get a Stryd pod if either pace or distance accuracy bother you (accepting that the Stryd to Fenix 5/5s might be a challenge, if you don’t have one of the newer 5/5s units that DCRainmaker noted a couple of months ago Garmin were quietly working a hardware tweak on, so 935 or Fenix 5X is a safer bet there too). Otherwise, choose your compromises for your useage and live with them.
  • Mentioned the casing to Garmin and they replied as follows:

"I believe I have seen similar comments on forums, stating the bezel is affecting the accuracy, however this is unlikely, as the bezel itself, serves a purpose of enhanced antenna, so the result should be quite the opposite.

Once you have made another run, please provide the one from the Vivoactive to compare with.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Kind regards,"

Still prefer the 935 (mostly because of weight) so will making the switch.
  • Im in the situation to move from f5 to 935 but hesitate on the anesthetic look and feel. You who have owned both, what's your feeling?
  • Ante, I did the move recently when my F5 refused to be recognized by GC. Never looked back tbh. It's much lighter, more nimble and more imortantly, it works as designed...
No more disconnected sensors, much faster through the menu's... I'm really happy I made the change.

And how do you experience the everyday use and build quality anesthetic of 935?
  • I like it a bit better, it's a bit less thick then the F5, less bulky, personnaly I like it more... I have the 935 only a month now, so I can't comment on the durability of it versus the F5 yet...

I owned the F5 for about a month before switching to the 935 (which I own for over a year now). The looks were my main concern as well, but I now actually prefer the 935. It's a more casual watch, slimmer, smaller, easier and more suitable to wear on a day-to-day basis.

My main gripe with it is still the black emptry ring around the display, but I only when I actually pay attention to it. It's more comfortable to wear then the F5, lighter and fits a bit better under a sleeve. Combined with the leather strap it's perfect imo. I have pretty small wrists though, perhaps that matters as well.

My main reasons for switching were sub-par GPS, also fixed with the 935.

All in all I had some hesitations as well, but they are all completely gone and I haven't regretted the switch at all,

I would recommend not to buy now FR 935 because of open water accuracy which does not exist actually. Onother case is not functioning cadence. Everything due to 9.60 FW update. It would be smart to wait for Garmin move.

Not sure what cadence issue you mean? Haven't noticed anything with cadence myself...

About open water, well... shouldn't be too big of an issue if it isn't used for swimming anyway but sure, might be an issue

Cadence shows ZERO simply! Speed ok, But there is no cadence. No matter what powermeter. What version of firmware you have?
