Cracks on Forerunner 645 Music body

Hello garmin users,

I just wanted to highlight some issues I recently discovered on my black645M. I have it since March and had no issues till last week.

When I removed it after a run, the band detached itself and that's when I discovered that the body was cracked where the band pin inserts into the body of the watch
What's worse (if that's possible) is that after inspecting the entire body, I've found that the 3 other holes for the pin were also starting to crack.

I am very cautious with my watch that has never been shocked in any manner. I do switch bands sometimes (official garmin bands) and I'm always careful when doing so.
I don't understand how this piece can be so fragile after only 9 months of not so heavy use, I'm wearing it daily at work and I've been running with it only around 40 times (no swimming).

I've just returned it to the shop as it is still under warranty and I hope that Garmin won't make any trouble to replace it but I'm now afraid that such an expensive piece of gear may not last that long finally... My previous Vivoactive HR died after 9 months also but this time it was after a one sessions at a swimming pool so the water proofing was probably faulty that time.
I can't afford a Fenix Chronos that is full metal nor want to carry such a heavy watch, the F645M is the perfect size for me and has the functions I want in a watch...

I'm adding some pictures of the cracks so you can see what it looks like.

I've seen similar posts for other models but nothing so far for this watch. Has anyone faced that already? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1431516.png ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1431517.jpg
  • Same Issue for me with my Garmin Forerunner 645 Music and in a place where the watch is no longer useable. Anyone have a contact for Garmin for a refurbished replacement or recycle program?

  • It depends of your country, I send my 645 to the store where I bought a watch (eazymut in Poland and we have there 3 years warranty :) ), but you can send your watch directly to your local garmin support.

Btw I read threads here, and when I got replacement I sold it as fast as possilble heh.

Shame garmin, quite nice watch but something like this... c'mon

  • Yesterday one of the lugs on my 645M broke as well. I use my watch everyday, but I treat it well, don’t swim with it and rarely change straps (maybe around 5 times a year). I bought the watch (new) in November 2018 and it has already been replaced I think half a year later due to software issues. I’m going to contact Garmin about this issue and hope for the best.

  • I don't have this problem on my 645 until now, however this situation is a shame. Garmin made a watch that is poor in project and material, these cracks have not create due to normal use, Garmin should retire the watch from selling (and indeed it did) and refund anyone who has had this problem or give them another model of the same or higher value like fenix or 945. This should do a serious brand that put a defective item on the market.

  • This has also happened to my Garmin 645 music!

if must be a design fault! The strap fell off on the other side 2 days ago and noticed that the lug had broken on the body! (I though wow! That’s bad. But after searching for almost 1hr managed to find the little metal ring and glued back together!
Now the same thing has happened on the other side! I can’t believe it! This time I can’t find the metal ring.

I wear my Garmin everyday and only use for gym and running. (Never been in a pool with it).

I have to say I’m very disappointed as now without metal ring I can not repair! Also what makes it even more frustrating it’s only just over a year old!

Can anyone offer any guidance regarding getting Garmin to replace? Or fix for free? I don’t see why I should have to pay to get this fixed or even worse have to pay for a new watch in such a short time!

  • I had the same thing happen to me..i got a very fast response by going to their Facebook page..posting a picture and what happened..then use the FB messenger to contact them...they responded to me within twenty minutes and they replaced my watch with a replacement

  • Just had this happen to me. Raised with Garmin Support Australia and they want me to pay $156.45 AUD (~ $120 USD) to replace it. Nice to see they don't care about their Australian customers.

  • I just checked the Garmin support site, and there's a specifc support article for this issue:  https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=fWW1dV4Y3O9RufIvQqEyG7&productID=591311&tab=topics

The article has a link to another page to request an exchange.  Just tried it.  Hopefully it works out.

  • So they will replace it with another one that it will break too, the 645 is faulty and never redesigned, I have broken 2, with the second I bought a TPU shell on amazon and completely covered, the risk of replacing it is that they give you one worse than yours, they are all refurbished and in some countries you even pay for them.

  • I just experianced exactly the same thing today. Garmin Australia quoted me 156.45 AUD as well. (purchased September 2018). How did you resolve your issue?
