Cracks on Forerunner 645 Music body

Hello garmin users,

I just wanted to highlight some issues I recently discovered on my black645M. I have it since March and had no issues till last week.

When I removed it after a run, the band detached itself and that's when I discovered that the body was cracked where the band pin inserts into the body of the watch
What's worse (if that's possible) is that after inspecting the entire body, I've found that the 3 other holes for the pin were also starting to crack.

I am very cautious with my watch that has never been shocked in any manner. I do switch bands sometimes (official garmin bands) and I'm always careful when doing so.
I don't understand how this piece can be so fragile after only 9 months of not so heavy use, I'm wearing it daily at work and I've been running with it only around 40 times (no swimming).

I've just returned it to the shop as it is still under warranty and I hope that Garmin won't make any trouble to replace it but I'm now afraid that such an expensive piece of gear may not last that long finally... My previous Vivoactive HR died after 9 months also but this time it was after a one sessions at a swimming pool so the water proofing was probably faulty that time.
I can't afford a Fenix Chronos that is full metal nor want to carry such a heavy watch, the F645M is the perfect size for me and has the functions I want in a watch...

I'm adding some pictures of the cracks so you can see what it looks like.

I've seen similar posts for other models but nothing so far for this watch. Has anyone faced that already? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1431516.png ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1431517.jpg
  • Look just a few posts up. There are TPU cases that cover the whole watch. The watch will get a little bigger and the steel bezel won't be visible, but probably will be a little more protected.

  • The problem is the Garmin project and the TPU cases must provide Garmin for free and not pay the customer.

  • Have had the 645 for just over a year (purchased April 2019). All four of the posts are now held together with epoxy after breaking off. Such a great watch (internals) to be ruined by cheap construction.

  • A few hours ago I received my replacement. The first thing I did was to put a tempered glass on and immediately after I put the TPU case on. It is very tight, so putting it on and off is not an option, and this may cause difficulties when cleaning the watch, it won't be easy to reach many parts of the watch itself. So, salt form sea or sweat can accumulate in some parts and this could also compromise its durability. On the other hand makes the watch just a little bigger, which makes it look better in my opinion and it hides the stainless bezel, which I don't like that much. The only downside is that buttons are a little harder to push, since the case is a little thick.

  • The same thing just happened to me today after spending so much money I didn’t think they will be selling us garbage like this..

  • These watches are all to be thrown away, they must allow us to scrape them with alternative models, instead they are just waiting for the guarantees to expire so as not to replace them

  • I got mine replaced but I won’t stay with Garmin. They should be aware of this fault and do more like extending warranty.
If my watch cracks a second time I will leave Garmin for another brand.

Hello, mine also today :-(, very disappointed on the quality vs price of this watch. I will try to contact Garmin Canada tomorrow. And see,,,

  • Hello, I had the same problem after 2 years and 2 months. No warranty and I have to throw the watch in the bin now! I was thinking to buy a Fenix 6 but honestly, why should I continue to waste my money?

  • Same problem, same solution as you.
