This is probably the worst thing I ever bought!
It's just problems after problems.
It's normal for the HRM not work just because I take off the watch from my wrist just for 15 minutes? Then I need to disconnect and connect again the HRM.
I have also taken my watch off for periods of time (shower, swimming, wakeboarding...) and each time the HR data and steps taken start working shortly there after...
Obviously if you are not wearing it the lights should stay off at some point (save battery)... but upon detecting motion should start back up? Hmmm... Is activity tracking 'OFF' by any chance?
Make sure you update your firmware via a computer - Garmin Express software... then at some point also power down and back on as well.
As NickMN already asked, is activity tracking 'OFF'? Press your RUN button then MENU/SETTINGS/ACTIVITY TRACKING ... either status ON or OFF.

As it's been said earlier in the posts, your watch may be defective.

Today I take the watch to the gym to test the HRM. Everything was fine until the moment that I finish the workout and looked at the steps counting.... nothing, it didn't count anything.
This watch it's really strange. What could have happen?
This is dependent on exactly what you were exercising on and how. Unlike the step counter on the older Forerunner 15 the step counter on the 235 is VERY dependent on arm motion. So if you are holding onto the heart rate monitor contacts on a treadmill the steps recorded for that activity will be zero. That wasn't the case with the 15, on that watch the step counter could be triggered by some really minor wrist motions due to bobbing a bit while using a treadmill. BTW, if you are pushing a grocery cart the 235 also won't record any steps. IMO Garmin was attempting to "refine" the step counter on the 235 and in that process they disabled some of the functionality. I've also noticed that the 235 estimates distance on a treadmill on the optimistic side, as it 1 mile shown on the watch equals 9/10 mile shown on the treadmill. However that may simply be due to me using a shorter stride length on a treadmill in comparison to my stride length out in the real world.
The tip here is that on a treadmill you really need to have your arms swinging if you want the steps counted.
