A weird "Transfer Completed" message everytime before start workout

Do any of you guys saw a weird message "Transfer Completed" right after you click on the run button?

I am sure my watch is not connected to the phone or what so ever.
  • The only thing I noticed while this update is getting new FW - if the new one arrives on the site - if I press start button and it says transfer complete - afterwards the update applies...

We have confirmed with the device team that the Transfer Complete message that users see upon exiting LPM is by design. As indicated by CHUNKYWIZARD, the device is announcing that a transfer between the watch and GCM has taken place at some point while the device is in LPM. The sync that took place could be activity or wellness data. The device will not display the message if a sync did not occur at some point while the device was in LPM, but most users will likely see this each time they press the Runner button because the device will likely have recently performed a background sync.
  • So this is due to the watch syncing more more than it did in earlier versions of the FW? It just started doing this with the newest FW. It used to be that you got the toast once, and that was after an activity (.fit) was transfered... (then you also only saw the toast when you left the FW LPM.)

Yes, the toast now appears on simple syncs (no .fit involved) and that's the change... I just tested it.

I have reach back out to the device team for to see if they changed the circumstances under which the message appears. The device will sync the Monitor (step data) files which are in a FIT file format in the background. Was originally told that this is how the device has always functioned, but I have reached out again to confirm.

One thing that I noted with my Forerunner 230 is if I exit LPM I get the message. I then press the back button to view the time of day. If I press the Runner button again, I don't get the message. I can then go back into LPM, open GCM on my phone and wait for the sync to complete. If I then exit LPM, I get the message. Is this what you are seeing as well?
  • Yes.. The toast for both transferring an activity as well as a simple sync.. Prior to this FW, you only got the toast when an activity was transferred.

With other devices I use, the simple syncs are silent (as they were on the 23x in earlier FW), and you only get the toast when an activity is transferred. (so you only get the toast after you save a "run" for example)

Device team has confirmed that this is currently functioning as designed, but there is an ongoing discussion that may result in when/how often the message is displayed. While the discussion is taking place, this is not a guarantee the Transfer Complete message functionality will change, and we do not have a timeline on when changes for this functionality would be implemented. We will continue to provide feedback to the device team based on feedback posted in this thread. Users can also submit ideas at www.garmin.com/ideas.

Thank you for providing your experience. We will add this to the discussion.
  • thanks

thanks for the update Joseph! Had always wondered what that was about!

Nice to have some direct feedback from Garmin on oddities, ideas, and issues.
  • I also get that message pretty often on all my 235/630/735 and I find it annoying.

You should also consider the use-case of no automatic background syncs. I personally keep the BT always off and use no notification or any other "smart" features (weather, calendar etc) because my Forerunner is a training tool, not an Apple Watch, and I want to maximize battery life. I only turn on manually BT when I need to sync my runs and then I turn it off right after. Then when I go for my next run, sometimes I get that annoying "sync complete" notification. That doesn't make any sense to me.
