Check out my first activity.
HR drops to 63. The strap is the Garmin HRM-RUN. Less than a year old. Works fine on other garmin devices.
What's going on?
  • 63 beats

It looks like the issue might be associated with the HRV data that the HRM-Run is sending. Let me dig a little deeper.

Have the same issue. Also use the HRM-Run belt. Seems like every 5 beats recorded is recorded at 63 beats. Givs me a too low average so the data is used when calculating even if I cannot see it in Trainingpeaks.
  • Same problem for me. A lot of drops to 63 bpm, using HRM-Run belt. Glad to read I´m not the only one that have this issue, but very unhappy waiting a software update to solve it. I´ve tried with another belt, and it works, and also in my 920XT works fine.
Hope GARMIN will give us a quick solution, because it´s an important mistake that affect a lot of costumers.
    Thanks!

Just rode with the 520 for the 1st time. HR dropping to 63 also. Not hugely impressed with that!!

They really need to fix this. I run and cycle and I got the run strap with the 920xt. I want that same strap working with my 520.

So IF you are going out and buying a separate HR belt - which ones are compatible with the 520?

    Affecting the 920?

I just noticed today that my 920xt is showing the drops now too. Looks fine on the run I did on Wednesday, but there are a few drops on the bike ride I did prior to the run. Today there are lots of drops... seems the 520 is causing some funkiness with the HRM-RUN itself. Weird.
  • and affecting Fenix 3

Yup, also spreading to Fenix 3. Just did a ride connected to Edge 520, Fenix 3, HRM-Run, with both BT connected to phone. 63 drops now occurring in Fenix Fit file, at different intervals. Never occurred on Fenix before. BTW, I've experienced major incompatibility issues between Fenix and Edge. See separate post...
  • Garmin certainly have a problem on their hands with this one. As people are rightly pointing out, it's not just HR drops on the Edge 520 when using the HRM-Run, it also affects other products (such as the 920 XT) when used with the HRM-Run in the vicinity of an active Edge 520. I'm pretty sure you will find that the 920 XT, etc will work as normal with the HRM-Run if you turn the Edge 520 off - but is this a good or bad thing?! It might mean it's not a simple firmware fix for how the Edge 520 interprets the HRM-Run signal; they also have to figure out what is causing the interference that is disrupting the HRM-Run signal to other units such as the 920 XT. Maybe we need to up the ante and ask if there is an errant signal that Garmin do not understand that is disrupting other units then should we be concerned on health grounds?!

Same here with a FR620. Once the Edge520 is around, the HRM Run starts to behave strangely which also affects other devices.

Support mentioned a fix but no ETA.

Same problem here...I am getting all the 63 bpm readings while using the HRM-RUN...Today I will try with the Scosche Rhythm+...
I am very dissapointed by Garmin mainly because they didn't inform potential buyers of Edge 520 about this incompatibility issue.
I am expecting a firmware upadte very soon...
