Edge 520 - Livetrack has no data

The last couple of rides, my Livetrack feed has had no data.  When I start the ride, I get the "Livetrack Started" message on my 520, my wife gets the email link and all that, but there is no data coming in at all (she gets some sort of "no location data" type of error).

When I stop the ride, I get a  message saying that LIvetrack has ended but it seems to not actually close the stream.  I end up having to stop the livetrack on my cellphone (Samsung s9).  Nothing has changed on the phone or GPS in months.

The activity file in Garment Connect has all the data and looks normal, the livetrack map is just a map of the general area with no data or tracking on it at all.

Any ideas?

  • There is a new version released yesterday, June 10th.  It's listed as 4.31.1.   Anyone tried it out yet? 

  • I will let someone else try it and report back first.  Today I am going on a new ride on a route through the hills that I've never taken before and I really need to make sure my wife can follow me.  This is one of the deals I have with her, I can go out and get a little crazy but she needs to be able to follow me.

    As soon as someone reports back and can confirm it's working I will go ahead and update.  Until then...  4.29.

  • Thank you for your attempt, you allow us to save time. Welcome back to 4.29 since unfortunately the problem does not seem to be resolved yet !!

  • I hope all of this isn't an attempt at planned obsolecense directed at the 520.    These little devices are too expensive to be upgrading every couple of years.   I've had my Edge 520 for a little over a year and I hope to get  more years of use from it.   

  • Livetrack still doesn't work.  The ride shows up on my Samsung S9 with Garmin Connect App after completion, but isn't connecting to the Livetrack web app.  Worked for a couple of years, but has now been broken for weeks.  I have all the latest software.  I want to upgrade to the 830, but now have reason to look elsewhere.

    Tried a livetrack on Saturday with latest edge firmware 13.10 and connect app software 4.31.1 and still the same issue. I have logged a support ticket and I strongly recommend anyone with same issue creates a support ticket too to raise awareness with Garmin. Its an important safety feature!

  • Agree, that we all need to send in tickets to make this noticed.
    When support agreed to send my ticket to Engineering here is additional information they asked for. I also had my wife take screenshots of what she saw while I was riding to provide as well.  I'm going to ask for an update as it's been 9 days since they got my diganostics.

    • As the session progresses, does the message go away? How about if the recipient reloads the page?
    • When this happens are you going through an area where you didn't have cellular data?  

    Android App Diagnostics:

    1. Tap Menu 
    2. Tap Settings
    3. Tap App Diagnostics
    4. Tap Share 
    5. Select default email client from the prompted list (ex. Gmail)
    6. Select From: Confirm the email address is the same as the Connect account
    7. Enter [email protected] in the To: field of the email
    8. Send the email

    I reverted back to 4.29 and all works fine with Livetrack. I emailed Garmin who asked me for screen shots of the error message my wife sees . I did this then they advised me they could not raise a ticket as I refused to update back to the latest app version that does not work. Crazy situation and they categorically denied this was a ploy to force customers to upgrade their devices as someone else mentioned earlier in the thread. 3 updates so far but none have resolved the issue. 

  • ^^ That's insane.  I have emailed Garmin again.  I am dealing with Andrew.  My case number and other info is shown in the email header "Re: Case information  << Reference ID: 16492457K1 >> <Q#:1002454>".  This has been a problem for almost 2 months.  I have sent them screen shots, Diagnostic reports and all they do is ask me to send them again with the current problem.  I'm not sure what the problem is but this is really starting to become a joke.

    I was listening to DCRainmaker this morning and he even called the LiveTrack features sort of a dumpster fire.  That there hadn't really been any improvements or modifications done to it since it was first introduced.

    Again, I'm sticking with 4.29.  It works.
