520 Plus fw 5.30 - dropout all sensors

Hi,

I upgraded firmware to 5.30 and I have lot of problem with dropout after pause. When Iclimbed to mountain, I had pause for 30min. When I am back on bike - Vector 3 (dual) no found, cadence not found, heart rate not found. Only speed sensor was founded.

I have new batteries for 1 week in all sensors, 2 days without problem, but after installing firmware 5.30, I have this problem.

Anyone with similiar problems?

Thanks

  • Hello everyone,

We have released Official software version 5.4 for the Edge 520 Plus. It will revert back to previous software while we investigate reports of sensor dropouts. It can be found at the top of the 520 plus forum as well as in the following link:

    https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-520-520-plus/223420/new-edge-520-plus-version-5-40-now-available

  • Great, I installed it immediately. Tomorrow I planned a long ride; can I trust this update?

  • I've taken a chance and installed this version (haven't got anything to lose i suppose).

The unit has recognised my power pedals and the Di2 gears, but not the Di2 shifters, even though these were recognised in an earlier iteration of this buggy release and the previous versions (5.1 & earlier). As were all my sensors actually.

I have no confidence that this is going to resolve the problems, but i'm happy to stand corrected

Out on a ride in the morning so i'll see

Garmin Support UK sent me another reply today, again advising I enable ANT logging by pressing the touchscreen, even though the 520+ doesn't have a touchscreen. Do they know something i don't?

I’ve installed but yet to use. As previously posted, I found 5.30 would see and hold sensors, if I disabled the Bluetooth phone under settings. Let’s hope 5.40 avoids having to use this workaround. Keep healthy and safe.

  • This morning I rode 150 km with 5.40 on my Edge 520 plus with only my HR-sensor connected (I also used my Fenix 5x+ as a back-up connected to all sensors such as power meter and speed sensor), The Edge worked well. Next step is to test it with all sensors connected, but so far so good.

I’m going to do a ride with it this PM UK time, but’s looking promising!

  • Any word on the update for this?

I'm having the same issues with Stages Power meter/Garmin HR monitor/Cadence sensor dropping out after the updates.

Tried everything from replacing batteries and updating everything and restarting the firmware with no luck.

    Thank you!!!

  • Just been out for a ride this afternoon and am not surprised to report that even though the 520+ recognises the power Favero Assioma Duo pedals) and the Di2 gears, but not the Di2 levers, i'm stil where i was after the original infamous update to 5.30. That is, no data whatsoever from the sensors, other than the basic stuff the 520+ does.

I have turned bluetooth off on the device and my phone as this has worked for others on this thread

Next step for me is to do a hard reset (last time i tried it didn't do anything and, failing that,  backdate it to 5.1 then let it update again to 5.4. But i don't hold out much hope to be honest. Perhaps i'll also attempt to format the whole unit in Windows Explorer and see what happens, i don't have anything to lose if it doesn't work.

I've moved beyond being angry about this total hash-up by Garmin and am now at a point where more than anything curiosity wants me to see this issue resolved, rather than a desire to continue using their products, but sadly i think it's beyond Garmin's capabilities.

Simon, 5.40 worked for me (all Ant+ working) even with Bluetooth phone enabled. However I’m perhaps lucky in that I never tried any of the fixes suggested by Garmin to hard reset etc and try and revert to 5.1. Good luck with whatever you try next!

  • Yes 5.40 worked 4hrs solid yesterday with no drop outs (apart from the power meter but it did display low battery as I set out).
