520 Plus fw 5.30 - dropout all sensors

Hi,

I upgraded firmware to 5.30 and I have lot of problem with dropout after pause. When Iclimbed to mountain, I had pause for 30min. When I am back on bike - Vector 3 (dual) no found, cadence not found, heart rate not found. Only speed sensor was founded.

I have new batteries for 1 week in all sensors, 2 days without problem, but after installing firmware 5.30, I have this problem.

Anyone with similiar problems?

Thanks

  • Looking at the 820, 520+ and Edge Explore 820 forums this issue appears to be affecting a few units since the upgrade. These units all share much of the same code that was just released.

It appears that performing a reset of the unit fixes the issue.

Here is a procedure to do that if you would like to try it that allows you to retain your settings and screen layouts.

    First backup your unit

On the Edge go down in to the Garmin folder and select all the folders and copy them to your PC. Don’t copy the files in the Garmin folder otherwise you will be there all-day copying maps.

On you PC you have the following folders shown in the table below.

Follow the guide below to decide which files you need and where to place them on the unit after a reset.

    How to do a reset a 520+

This can be done through the UI by

Settings -> System -> Device Reset -> pick either just the settings or a full reset.

thanks for your reply, but i'm now back where i was a few days ago when my 520+ was upgraded to v5.3

I decided to let the Garmin update again to v5.3 after manually pushing it back to 5.1, which didn't help at all, some sensors visble but none sending data to the 520+

I've just done a reset as you suggest, but the Garmin is still not taking any sensor details; Well it's taking the Di2 but they aren't visible when i add a couple of them into one of the screens.

You mention about copying over the Settings.fit file as this contains the user profile and sensor pairings. I've done that in Windows Explorer, but can't open the file to view the contents. The http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ website where you can upload .fit files throws back an error message when i upload the settings.fit file and try to output as a .csv file

Do you know how i can view a settings.fit file?

I logged a call yesterday with Garmin UK Support, although based on previous experience of them, i think it's going to be a long process to resolve what is Garmin's fault for releasing this firmware update

    regards

    Simon Hume

  • do you mean to put all the backup folders back in new files? or just the contents of the backup folders?

  • So, i had a bit of luck last night, but unfortunately short lived

I decided to do a hard reset of my 520+, using the lap/reset & start/stop as well as the power button procedure

Once it got to the entering language i turned the unit off then on.

Don't know how, but the Di 2 shifters were recognised,  so i could scroll through the screens using the supplementary button on top. Di2 battery level and also the gear combo was also visible

On my bike ride this morning, the power pedals weere being recognised (sort of) but no data transfer to the 520+ still

So, i've sort of moved on, but not sure what wil happen on my next ride. I have no clue as to why after 5 or 6 tries, the 520+ recognised the D|i2 shifters, even though i've done a hard reset before.

  • slightly off topics, but the same thing happened with the recent firmware update to my forerunner 945 as well. sensor and HRM dropout. tried hard reset, unit froze, had to factory reset. can't believe garmin is sending out new firmware without properly testing to all its devices.

I have two garmins, 820 and 520+, the 520+ come with 4.20, and i never do the upgrade to 5.10 because all works very well! The 820 come with 12.10, livetrack never work well because of bluetooth issues, now with 12.30 all connections Lost! In my opinion the best firmware for this two are 4.20 and 11.20, after that its been pain in the...

What i dont understand is how Garmin is making firmware that makes all even Worse!!

And its annoying that when Turn on the GPS is allways asking to do the update, i'd like to have a place were i can Turn off auto update and therefore stick to the firmware that in my opinion causes less problems.

  • I think I fixed it. I deleted/de-paired ALL the sensors and paired again the Varia lights as first. No issue up to now, it works stable, without any reset of the unit.

I have not re-paired yet the puls sensor, hope it will not mess it up. Keep you updated.

Garmin are a joke.  This is even worse than the time they stopped supporting their own HR monitors without telling anyone.

I have reverted to 5.10 and it seems to be OK though I had to do a hard restart after processing the upload.

  • Yip .. same issue. Hard reset and re-setup but still the same. Drops all senors after a few minutes.

I downgraded to beta 5.24 and all seems to be working ok.

Will use for awhile and see but if not will go back to 5.10.
