Help with corrupt fit file

Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

  • the edge is now storing only corrupted files. don't no why. the next one:
  • Give these files a shot :)

  • Carsten,

There was no indication what was wrong some errors the tool just fixes, have you checked lately to make sure the memory is not full on your device?

Hi, Help wanted to fix a corrupt FIT file.
Did a 400k ride at weekend and don't want to lose it. Distance and elevation are correct, but map has a straight line in the middle of ride. First 50% and last 10% of ride map is OK. So should be fixable. Hope some kind person can help to fix. Thanks in advance. Will

  • Will,

There is nothing in the middle that can be fixed( at least I am aware of) you have a 100 mile jump between records, did you ride it with anyone else that you could get the fit file from them?

    hi will-a,

Just to add to Bart's post, the missing data is between 02/06 2143hrs and 03/06 1247hrs (approx 15hrs) If you look at this pic of the Event Log, a Stop All command to the Timer was sent at 02/06 2143hrs. The device then goes thru a number of Power Down / Power Up events but no Start command to the Timer is sent until 03/06 1247hrs - the period of the missing data.

    cheers

Thanks very much Bart & Mike for your help and analysis. Sorry for slow reply. I've been away for a few days. Normally my 520 handles power off/on without losing info. But this time it didn't. There was no indication that the track was not being saved. since it showed OK/normal on screen. Next time I'm doing a long ride >200km, I'll save in sections and combine later to avoid this risk. Anyway, I've now been able to grab the missing bit from a mate and splice it in. Cheers Will
  • Hi !

I avoided the rain this morning, but not the corrupted file :( I've try severals tools but it didn't work.
