Help with corrupt fit file

Former Member
Former Member
Might as well start a thread for this like they have over in the 500 forum.

I've only had my 520 for a week, and I really like it. The only issues I've had so far are that sometimes the bluetooth requires me to restart on the device to work properly, and then tonights FIT file is really corrupt so I can't load it over to strava.

The online FIT tool doesn't fix it, and then I opened it in golden cheetah. It seems the timestamps are all whacky, where it should be increasing every second, but it looks like the stamps are becoming integer overflows. The data is there, I just don't know of a way to edit all of the timestamps by just setting them as monotonically increasing seconds after they start getting corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot Mike for the help!

I guess I have quite a lot of activity files, never removed any since I got the watch in late april. I'll remove some and see if that helps for future swimruns.

Well something is not right with my swim run activities...

I tried to delete all local fit files on my watch, but my latest swim run activity is still corrupt.
Maybe I need to try with out the 3 party apps installed.

This one is from my latest race and I would be glad if it could be repaired.
    Thanks a lot.

    hi Daniel,

Something is definitely upsetting the Developer Fields in your files - deleting the 3rd party apps sounds like a good option.

    Give this file a try.

    cheers

Ok, now Im out of ideas. Deleted the 3rd party apps I though was corrupting my activities, but I still get corrupted activities...
This file is from a swim run competition from yesterday.
If someone is interested in having a go at it, I would appreciate it!
Are the problems still in the developer fields?

    Thanks, Daniel

    hi Daniel,

I had to exclude the Developer Fields (engExpend and runEcono) in order to get your file to export properly.

    Give this file a try.

    cheers

    Hi,

This ride loaded to Garmin Connect, but Strava is saying that the file is corrupt. If there is any way to salvage the file, I would be very grateful.

I just broke a Guinness World Record at the weekend. It was from John O Groats to Lands End and back. Thats the two furthest apart points in the UK. In order to give some additional evidence to the GPS tracker we used we also recorded the ride in two halfs on my Garmin 520 however the southbound leg wont load into Strava. Keeps saying the file name contains illegal characters/server error etc. How do I fix this? I dont have Access or even run a PC so cant download the .FIT file fixer tool. Would be most grateful for some help. Thanks.

    hi jammacdo

If you can upload the original .fit file in a reply to this message or get yourself a free Dropbox account, upload the file to there and then share the link, I will see what I can do - no guarantees though until I have seen what data is in the file to manipulate.

    cheers
