Update 9.50 crashed my two Edge 1030

After updating the software to version 9.50, either the GPS froze on the loading screen (first device), either it froze on the main screen (second device).

So I lost my two devices just before starting for a bike ride... I am very disappointed about this catastrophic update.

Does anyone has the same issue ?

Does anyone have a solution to fix this mess ?

Many issues, crashed multiple times. Emailed garmin but no support.

Regularly wont turn on since 9.50. Have to hold power button for 10 secs and then when it does start it has normally deleted a ride profile at least

  • Continue randomly crashing on navigation. Garmin support keep silence. I'm wondering does support really exist.

  • I feel that this update was really a DISASTER

  • Not sure if this helps;

1.) Losing the pairing with my phone occasionally and requires removing phone and Edge

2.) Losing the activity data screens and fields (resets to defaults)

3.) Losing sensors (HR, Vector 3 Power and Trek Duotrap Speed/Cadence)

4.) Won't turn on or shut off sometimes requiring the 10 second soft reset

5.) Loses activity by locking up at the end of an activity.

6.) Occasionally does not respond when plugging into my PC

7.) It seems like swiping between screens is slow.

Hopefully they are working on an update.

  • My device wouldn't load after updating to 9.50 either. Holding the power button on to force a reboot worked, but if I turned it off I was then faced with the same situation (ie it wouldn't boot up).

I forced a reboot and did a factory reset. It was a pain setting it up again but it has been rock solid stable since. Apparently if you can connect it to a computer and delete the "new folder" folder in the Garmin folder (I think that makes sense!) then it will fix the problem. I wish I knew that beforehand!

  • So. After Garmin support did not reply me for a week - just rolled back to 9.10

Lost all settings. And need to re-build screens

    I really hate Garmin support.

  • If you tried calling them you'd realise that due to the Covid-19 situation they are extremely understaffed right now. The best thing is live chat. I used them when my unit wouldn't boot with this update and they were very helpful.

  • Nop. It was several emails. And only robot told me that my mail registered.

  • Their phone line said they aren't monitoring as many emails right now due to covid and chat was the best option which is what I did.

  • That mean they provide very limited support. Chat also was down several time. And covid19 not excuse to do not proceed mail. They are still selling high price tag devices and deploy update that killing devices. And that seems covid not an obstacle here.  Making new software releases in case where support not supplied with enough resources seems very non-professional.
