I have downloaded a OSM map and installed on my Edge 1030.
I can see a file that is titled gmapsupp.img on PC when garmin is connected but it does'nt appear on the unit in the map section.
Any thoughts?

The .img file is a database file. The map as a name, I’d and a bunch of other properties all set inside the database. So the name you see for the map is not the file name but the map name set in. This is good to know because if you take two maps with the same map name and just rename the file thinking you can avoid a conflict it won’t work. Two maps must have different name and Id regardless of their file names. Cheers.

It never broke down. And for a while I used custom maps based on geo-referenced images from Google Earth. But the Garmin basemap is disabled."
It's having multiple overlapping -routable- maps that can be a problem.
It's normal to have multiple maps enabled.
The Garmin Cycle map isn't the basemap.
It's ok to have the actual basemap enabled (it can make drawing the screen at low zoom levels faster).
