We are continuing to work with Apple regarding Bluetooth connection issues with our devices. We have released Garmin Connect Mobile version 4.1.5 that includes improvements for iOS connectivity. Please continue to post any feedback in this thread.
My ride yesterday was with GCM running in the background newest version 4.4.0.19, bluetooth stayed connect for the whole ride after saving the ride it upload before I could get my gear off so seems to be working for me. Before the latest GCM if I turned my BT off on my phone and then back on I would have to kill the app before the BT connection would re-establish now when I enable BT everything links back up.. I wish Garmin would list what the current version fixes are instead of just stating app improvements.
Had a 30 minute spin this morning and noticed the following- Turning on my 1030 it did not BT connect to my Iphone 7. I did my spin and saved the ride. I then opened GC app on my phone and it connected to the 1030 however i stood for 5 minutes watching and it never auto-uploaded the ride. Also i had taken off my HRM belt but the 1030 was still showing it connected after 5 minutes! When i hit the sync symbol on the top right of the GC app main view it shortly after uploaded my ride. The HR symbol stayed displayed until a 'download' message appeared on my 1030 screen and then the HR symbol went out. Still flakey............
Spent about 30 minutes trying to update and reconfigure the latest Xert CIQ apps via GCM this afternoon. It was quite painful, every 2nd time I tried to go to the config page for the fields it would sit displaying the running man for ages then go blank, or show some error message.
Im sorry to say, but my 1030 won't stay paired with my iPhone6 for longer than a week - sooner or later, 1030 refuses to connect no matter what I do ... I have to "forget the phone" and "forget the device" and start over. Over and over :( Applies only to connection with GC; BLE connection allowing me to see notifications is fine. It's getting tedious. FW 3.90
I've noticed that only the foreground app on my iPhone 6 (iOS 11.2.6) seems to work reliably with bluetooth. If GCM is running in the background my Xert data fields don't always download their settings from Xert's servers and Live Track doesn't work reliably. On the rides where I've opened GCM and it's in the foreground everything has worked fine (even with the screen locked). Similarly when I was trying to do a Zwift workout on Apple TV using the Zwift companion app (basically a bluetooth bridge as the Apple TV has limited bluetooth channels) either Zwift would lose my power meter / trainer or the Xert fields wouldn't update depending on which of GCM or Zwift Companion was in the foreground.
I updated my Iphone 7 to latest firmware update today (11.3) and decided as it usually makes sense to delete my Bluetooth pairings and start again with my 1030 to do that. It didnt want to fully pair/connect to each other until i removed GC app from my phone and re-installed it from scratch. Now its all done it appears to connect on BT when i switch the 1030 on regardless of GC app being open or closed! Possible progress on the connection front.........
I have had no bluetooth issues for years on my Edge 510 but since 11.3.1 I have to do the following
1. forget device from garmin & phone 2. reboot device 3. pair phone and device - it will take a long time - switch device off 4. switch device on and it will give the pair key and click on Pair on phone 5. If it doesn't automatically fire up the Garmin app start it and it will automatically sync and show the green light. 6. If not connected then reboot the device 7. If this fails - do this again and by about the 3rd time it works.
Note it seems that in my bluetooth settings it connects but the app doesn't - then I get the phone disconnected alert on the device repeatedly where I have to switch the bluetooth off so I can ride my bike without interruptions.
I assume the issue is with Garmin as I have no other issues with other bluetooth devices, in fact my bluetooth headphones range has improved since the last iOS update.
It seems that the Garmin will connect via bluetooth in the iOS bluetooth settings but the Garmin App doesn't pick it up. If you bring the phone really close to the Garmin Edge and wait a few seconds (upto about 15 seconds), it will connect and sync and then when you put your phone back in your pocket etc, it stays connected. Must be some sort of handshake bug with the app. Since I have done this, I have never had to re-pair it.
These BT connectivity issues continue to be a problem. Before 4.00, things were reasonably consistent, but afterward, there is no BT connection to iPhone 8+, running iOS 11.3.1. This seems to also affect BTE connections with power meters.
Garmin tech, anything new with this issue? I have iOS 11.3.1 and GC 4.6.0.18 and cannot get GC to see the BT connection when the 1030 is connected in the BT settings on the phone. When I sync in GC, I get the device may be busy error code. Frustrating.
