Firmware 5.0 First Ride Impressions

Since 4.0 came out I had nothing but problems. I had strange resets for no reason, Strava Segments crashed the Garmin, I would lose connection to my power meters and had random warnings for non-existent turns. The beta firmwares, along with gimping functionality by disconnecting it from my phone, fixed it mostly. Today I installed 5.0 and went out on a ride with it connected to my phone and with Strava Segments turned on. Everything was perfect! No crashed, no issues with Strava Segments and not a single freeze or lost signal on my power meter. Seems like 5.0 fixed everything for me so far.
  • Sharp bend warnings are still being displayed when navigating a course despite being disabled in the activity profile
  • Yup, sharp bend warnings being displayed and also they warn of sharp turns which are not sharp turns (unless you are going at 60mph.
Remote is rendered useless. It keeps disconnecting after a few moments everytime.
  • Quite frustrated with mine now. Previous software versions have worked fine for what I do (lots of rides, auto upload at the end via an iPhone). Version 5 has killed the connection to my phone. I have tried pairing, uninstalling and reinstalling the device from my phone, and my phone from the Garmin, it seems that the Garmin finds the phone (sometimes) but the phone cannot find the Garmin. As this was a major reason for buying the unit I am thinking of returning it under warranty as it looks like some units don't behave and most units do behave (reading this thread there are lots of people with good success and a few with failures)
  • I would recommend a backup of your config files inside the Garminfolder and then reset and delete all data. Then copy back your activities, records etc to the Garmin/Newfiles folder.
When I got mine I had all kind of problems that disappeared after the reset.

I’ve made a couple of rides with 5.0 (100km xc mtb) it fixed sms and incoming call texts, live tracking now is back again after 4.0. BUT now accident detection is too sensitive and when it started counting 30sec It was not possible to stop the countdown, in any way. Will it be possible to fix everything once forever?! 3.90 was the perfect one for me.

My incident detection goes off most times i stop! You have to press and hold the bottom of the screen for 5 or more seconds for it to cancel.

Ok. I use the R8070 with the EW-WU111 but there shouldn't be any difference. My connection between the edge and the Di2 is stable.

The connection with my DI2 is also dropping and reconnecting every 3-4 minutes with the 5.0 firmware.
I've got the R8070 version with the EW-WU111. Connecting my phone via bluetooth or disabling the phone connection doesn't solve the problem.

Ive moved all my sensors to Ant+ Not BLE. its helps! Try that and see if any of yours are on BLE. Look at your sensors and any that are BLE note down. Then search and add that sensor again. If aleady on BLE it will offer ANT+. Save it and then disable the BLE version.
  • I think that’s right I have lots of sensors (lights, power, di2, heart) connected but they are all ANT and I have had no real problems day to day for the last 6 months. The Di2 hidden buttons work brilliantly as a remote. The problems with the 1030 all seem to be Bluetooth related.

My bet is cheap hardware which no amount of firmware will improve.
