Garmin Swim Workout Data Not Getting to Hard Drive

After a swim 1/16/19 my Garmin Swim watch updated to both my PC at C:\Users\All Users\GARMIN\GarminConnect\GARMIN SWIM-3905149769\FIT_TYPE_4 and to Garmin Connect. After a swim on 2/12/19 (and thereafter) data gets to Garmin Connect but not to my PC. Since Garmin Connect updates the watch and ANT stick are obviously working so something else is going on. Getting the download to PC matters to me as I then import it to SportTracks from there.
  • kvd5801 ndon't know why this has suddenly changed but is there a reason that you don't link sporttracks to connect to synchronise automatically?
  • Also, you can view the activity in Garmin Connect, then choose "Export original", and this will give you the original fit file to do whatever you need to do with it.
  • I am sad to admit that I couldn't figure out how to get my Swim to auto sync to SportTracks but it does do so to Garmin Connect.
  • The only way (if I remember correctly) to get the Garmin activity to auto sync to SportTracks was/is via SportTracks.mobi.
  • kvd5801 you should be able to use https://tapiriik.com/ to auto-sync between GC and Sporttracks.
  • Just got off the phone with Garmin, the "feature" that puts the files on hard drive was eliminated in a recent update to Garmin Express.
  • kvd5801 that sucks. Have you tried using https://tapiriik.com to auto-sync from GC to Sporttracks? I only ask because it actually seems like it would be easier than your previous workflow.

If you need the original activity FIT file for any purpose, you can go to the GC website, click on the activity, click on the gear icon and select "Export Original". There are also free Python scripts available on the internet that can perform a bulk download of activity FIT files from GC. Either of these methods could be an alternative if you don't want to rely on a third-party service.
  • Thanks, hate to keep adding new software bits so haven't tried tapiriik. I did the export from GC which gave a zip file which I then unzipped into the hard drive folder and was then able to import, fair amount of steps and time so think I will just keep it "simple" and go with manual entry of date, time of day, elapsed time and distance into SportTracks. I just wish developers would quit "improving" products that already work (at least well enough for the ignorant user, aka me!).
  • kvd5801, that's understandable.

Actually I searched it up and SportTracks now offers seamless auto-sync from your Garmin (this may have been what Philip was referring to.) Hopefully this is the comprehensive and simple solution you were looking for:

  • Sorry for the slow reply, I have no options to add a service (see attached screenshot).

PS - how did you get the images in your post? I used Snipping Tool and the forum won't allow me to paste into the body of the post.
