Forerunner 965 swim issues

I’ve been using the Forerunner 965 for my swim workouts, and overall, it’s a great device (I am a new Garmin user). However, I’ve noticed a couple of areas that could use improvement:

  1. Editing Swim Lengths After Activity:

    • Currently, there’s no direct option on the watch itself to edit the swim distance after ending an activity.
    • It would be incredibly helpful if we could adjust the swim length directly on the watch, rather than relying solely on Garmin Connect.
  2. Distance Accuracy:

    • The Forerunner 965 occasionally overestimates or underestimates swim distances, especially in 25m pools.( although I follow tips from garmin)
    • Could there be a way to fine-tune the distance tracking algorithm or provide better calibration options?
  3. Personal Records (PRs) Update:

    • When the watch overestimates the distance swum, it registers a new, incorrect personal best (PR) in the app.(distance and tempo)
    • It would be great if PR updates could happen automatically without manual intervention, now you have to edit activity manually and only way to set new personal best is thru web Garmin connect
  •  But- what got me more annoyed is that my FormSwim goggles always get it right.

The reason may be that the glasses are located on the head, and it is easier to notice a change in the direction of acceleration to the opposite direction. And the watch is located on the wrist, the trajectory of which, when moving and turning, is more complex than the trajectory of the head.

  • I guess it's easier to detect laps in googles that are more or less facing the same direction you swimm to, so it can be done with a compass.

When you wear your watch on your arm (at least that's where I do) and you move your arm to all king of 'strange" directions, then I can imagine it's not so trivial to detect laps. It can only use accelerometer, compass. No GPS, because the weak radio waves have problems in the water (the same reason why chest HR straps can't broadcast the hr to the watch in real-time)

However if it worked in Fenix, then there might be some other reason. Unfortunately Fenix and forerunner are 2 different groups, and although nowadays they seem to share more features, so probably code as well, there might be still differences. This is not to excuse Garmin, on the contrary! They should fix these internal communication flaws...

BTW last time I swam was with fenix6 and I had the same issue with it, that sometimes it counted 25 more or less.
