15.17 beta out

my usual PSA...

Changes since version 15.15

  • Fixes an issue where the date could be missing from a watch face with a white background.
  • Updates sleep schedules to display the range of days for each night of sleep that spans midnight to reduce confusion.
  • Adds support for viewing climbs from the race page for a cycling event with an associated course.
  • Adds additional altimeter calibration options after selecting an activity when auto calibration is off.
  • Fixes an issue that could cause the device to crash when starting navigation from an activity that did not previously have a map page configured.
  • Fixes an issue where the device would not vibrate for an incoming call received during an activity.
  • Fixes an issue where some CIQ watch faces could cause the device to crash.
  • Fixes other minor issues.

haven't installed it yet myself, but been overall pleased with 15.15 as the bugs above haven't affected me thus far.

  • Yes, mine prompted me to install an update on Saturday (already on 15.17), but I declined so I could check what the update was. When I went into System -> Software Update, there was nothing there. And “Check for Updates” yielded no results. It must have been a phantom update…

  • similar to me. i got a prompt while out and about on Saturday. it updated quickly but i don't see any real changes. this happened with a previous firmware update (15.11?)

  • I had the same thing happen.  When i checked later in the day I was still at 15.15, then from the watch I forced it to look for an update.  It found 15.17 and then installed it.

  • Yes. I first tried WiFi. It said it downloaded update, but wasn't still anywhere to be updated. Connected to computer, that did update and then next day just suddenly there's update. Didn't tell much what, so I kind of just thought it was the wifi update that decided to update itself day later.

  • You have to completely exit the menus, then navigate back to the Software Updates section. You'll then see "Install 15.xx" where "Check for Updates" was.

  • Same...all versions remained the same so no clue.

It went through the actual update process so something seemed to happen, trying to remember if this was after connecting to Garmin Express (had already updated over wifi to 15.17).

  • for me, i installed 15.17 via wifi and did not connect it the computer (nor have i done so in a few weeks). the request to update a couple of days later was out of the blue and did seem like a  really update process although the time to completion was short (i think estimate when i accepted was 1-2 minutes?)

  • But perhaps you synced through the connect mobile app?

Anyway... I noticed that there was some 'Configuration 2.0.1' update in Garmin Express, it showed there was an update even though my watch wasn't connected... After connecting I could see it was this 'configuration 2.0.1' update but when installing nothing really seemed to happen. Perhaps this was the thing that seemed like an actual update?

Ah well, who knows... (Well, garmin hopefully). In the end I'm at least happy there seems to be some nice progress being made on this watch and it finally being in a good state.

  • it finally being in a good state.

We'll see, my verdict is still out there as open water and swim run season is just starting. Interested to see have they managed to fix the distance problems there during winter. At least with 945 they managed to fix the problems during first winter so fingers crossed.
