Real battery life

How much battery does your FR955 loses per hour during an outside activity?

FR955 Solar With All systems or Auto-Select I am just over 6% (previous watch) and now with the new one (4 times charged total) in GPS only it looses about 5-6% per hour running with BT HRM,  light off, FW 14.20.

Bike - GPS only, 6% per hour with BT HRM, cadence sensor and varia radar connected and with 80-90% solar intensity...and about 10 cars detected/alerts total. No map or navigation. That is way off from the official claims - that would be 16-17 hours total in GPS only (OK, with 3 sensors) with full battery. GPS with OHR is claimed up to 42 hours for ordinary 955...What I get is about 2.5 times less than claimed...

Without activity I could get 2 (or just over) weeks...if no drains, but I wasn't inactive that long since the new watch arrived. I have a feeling that a previous 9 months old watch had a bit better battery life.

Is my way off or you get the similar results?

  • Yeah, I forgot to mention I loaded course today and used navigation, map not so much.

  • The watch only reports 1% changes of battery so especially in the beginning it's very coarse/broad. The more time passes by, the stabler (and more correct) it gets

  • i have not noticed any appreciable battery usage using this awesome CIQ data field. as you suggest, i don't look at the data while running and just leave it on its own page and never look.

yet, i've recently run into the issue of not being able to load more than two CIQ fields onto my watch for an activity and it gets confused. what i want installed are Strava Relative Effort (i use this frequently), battery monitor, and solar intensity. i thought it would be nice to monitor solar intensity and compare it against discharge rate, but i can't do all three. (and even though i have 3 installed and select 2, i sometimes only can randomly choose 2 of the 3 available (ie, in on case the Battery Monitor wasn't an option until i deleted all of the different CIQ data fields and started from scratch).

i don't know how hard this would be but i would love to put in a feature request for Battery Info. how hard would it be to add the Solar intensity data field into your CIQ data field much like others combine tons of data fields into one CIQ data field? if it's doable, that would be incredibly useful!

  • I usualy don't change much screens while running, but I do while cycling and the watch is on the handlebar.

I agree it is a bummer you cant use more than 2 CIQ fields per activity, this is my first Garmin watch, but that limit is here for a while from the previous series of watches.

  • In theory not too hard I guess (apart from the fact I hardly develop anymore ;) )

I might be able to check it out this weekend, have a long weekend so some spare time...

  • less than 4% (3.75%) per hour with multiband, bluetooth external heart sensor and RD pod.

  • wow! that's really low. i've only used multi band on a couple occasions with an external HRM and i was burning much closer to 5.5-6%/hour

  • thanks for even considering.

  • my 735XT was able to handle 3 fields, if i recall correctly. but then my 935 could only handle 2. yet, i am not sure how to report or explain the buggy behavior with the 955. i understand the restriction of 2, but the "activity" seems unaware of other fields after i stop using one. i have to basically wipe the slate clean entirely to get to the field i want.

  • Just this morning I left with 100% charge and after a 1h20' run the battery was 95%
