beta 15.12 release candidate

FYI:

This update, version 15.12, is a Release Candidate. "Release Candidate" means that this exact software version is planned to “Go Live” as a public update as long as no critical issues are observed. All copies of version 15.12 will be identical, so there are no differences in functionality whether you install version 15.12 as a Public Release Candidate or wait for the update to be a Live public update.

As a member of the Public Beta program, this update will be automatically delivered to your watch through GCM. Please note that GCM will check for an available update once every 24 hours, and after that it may take several hours for the update to finish transferring and be available on your watch to install.

Changes since version 15.11

  • Fixes an issue where keys did not cause a vibration when the setting was enabled.
  • Fixes an issue that could cause off course warnings to be too sensitive.
  • Improves HRV graphs to better match what is shown in Garmin Connect.
  • Adds support for an acute load watch face data field.
  • Fixes an issue where the performance condition notification could sound an alert tone when alert tones are disabled.
  • Fixes an issue with today’s intensity minutes value getting cut off on the intensity minute page.
  • Fixes other minor issues.
  • Did Garmin ever advertised, in any form, battery life estimates available on third party watch faces from the IQ Store?

If yes it is a bug, if no then it is a feature request.

Also you may want to consider to bring this up with the watch face author.

  • Now, to be correct and aside of any jokes...

Battery life estimate is there since SDK 3.3.0, which is probably more than 1 year old. But for some reason, FR955 (and many others) is not in the support list for this feature.

Watch face authors have nothing to do with this, Garmin should be blamed here for not adding support for 955 yet. If you want this, contacting Garmin or creating separate thread is better idea than chatting about it in this thread.

  • developer.garmin.com/.../Stats.html

If you look at supported deices for batteryInDays on the link above there is no support for FR955 or any FR for that matter.

This should be a feature request.

Garmin should be blamed here for not adding support for 955 yet.

There is nothing to blame on Garmin. As any other company they can choose whether or not to expose something in a public API. Apple does the same.

  • Of course, Garmin can decide for itself what goes on the watches and what doesn't.
But I remember on the Fenix 7 there were loud protests when the FR955 came out with new features that weren't on the Fenix 7. Just an example of the morning report, which and other functions have been added with updates.
You could handle the FR955 the same way.

  • Absolutely right on pressuring Garmin. I just don't think this is the right thread to do it.

  • i never even noticed this because i don't use this feature, but i confirmed this morning that the FR955 doesn't support days remaining on battery on 15.12.

not sure if this is a feature request or a bug report that needs to be made. maybe both?

i sent a personal report to Garmin for something similar recently and it got fixed in FW15: prior to FW15, the FR955 didn't support long touches for CIQ watch faces even though it was supposed to. not sure we need to go back to the FW which says that was included or not. maybe it never was?

  • I think that I've found an interesting bug in the latest firmware related to calories.  I would appreciate if if you could take a look forums.garmin.com/.../sudden-spike-in-the-active-calories-recorded-despite-no-activity

  • @ethcz and anyone else,

Does your watch still show 15.11 after the update, or does it now show 15.12?

  • Mine says 15.12B. I think the sneaky update that came through without asking a couple of days ago added the B, because I didn't have it before then.

  • Thanks for asking. I am still on 15.11.

I updated normally to 15.11 (by selecting "Software Update -> Check For Updates" while on wifi).
Then, the weird "blind" update appeared, I think after connecting the watch to Garmin Express on PC and then disconnecting the watch. I confirmed to install and after the installation + reboot, it stayed on 15.11.

But since then, I haven't proceeded neither Software Update -> Check For Updates, nor connecting to Garmin Express and I have Auto update set to Off, because I like 15.11 and don't want to accidentally break things.

So my previous post was more about that weird blind update appeared, than complaining that I couldn't update to 15.12. Hope this makes sense.
